Diablo Clones

While they say that variety is the spice of life, sometimes I find that I most enjoy the same old, same old. However, a little varience in the same old same old can go far to extend that enjoyment to it's fullest.

So, the question I put forward to you, the most likely bored denizens of these here forums, What are some middling to highly enjoyable diablo clones that you have stumbled upon?

The only one I can think of off of the top of my head right now is Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Pretty enjoyable, though I do prefer my Roguelike evolutions to be on the PC.

I've been looking at a game called sacred. It's supposed to be a game in the same vein as diablo II. I haven't played it as of yet, but I have one friend that says he liked it better and it's getting a sequel....Okay, I guess getting a sequel has nothing to do with quality, but you can check out the review here.

I'd like to say it was free, but you can get it pretty close to free legally here

If you do end up playing it let me know if my buddy was right.

For hack & slash adventure there's "Ys: The Ark of Napishtim". Just disable voice acting if you can. It's a little similar but also different in that, while there's a central storyline and stuff, all the mobs respawn and junk and it's more lighthearted and stuff than Diablo et al.

Shrug. It's about a 5 or 6 hour game, give or take, and can be surprisingly challenging.

Titan Quest was pretty cool. Not much direction in where to go though, so it can be frustrating.

Mythos. It doesn't like it's out yet, though. IIRC it's made by the Hellgate London people.

I guess I will blame this on ED.

Oh, wait, hold on...

Most MMORPGs strike me as operating on a model of "Diablo, except everything requires 300 times as much exp / $ / SP / whatevs."

Mike McC 06-17-2008 06:07 PM

Yeah, as much as MMORPGs fall into the Roguelike, I just prefer to be able to do something in a matter of at most hours, not days/weeks.

Plus, I'm not sure if any of you have noticed this, but people on the internet are kinda dicks.

There is no cow level, bastards. Stop trying to push your Map of Stars off on me.

Try FATE for a pretty Diablo clone.

I have a friend who said he was beta testing Mythos, he said it was pretty badass. I'm looking forward to checking it out if I get a chance.
