FFT:A2
Is it just me or are the sprites even smaller this time? Also, the loot system is pissing me off.
So... Thoughts? Complaints? |
Wait, this game is out already? *GASP*
I'm gonna go get it. Right now. Bye. Oh, and before I go, how different is it from the first? How much have they changed? Are most of the abilities the same? |
Is it all kid friendly like FFTA, or more dark and mature like FFT?
|
So far, hard to say. Although one of the characters has been shot in a cutscene.

I ended up liking it in English a lot more than I did in Japanese. I thought I didn't have the patience for rpg's in my old years. The Bazaar system isn't too annoying, I have tons of loot from fighting every mission and having at least two party members with the Thievery subset. I think the sprites only seem smaller though, hell if I know.
It's really not that different from the first game. The Law system has been tweaked: instead of receiving a penalty you just don't receive a reward. Obtaining weapons and whatnot is primarily done through loot synthesis in the Bazaar. Map is somewhat different. 99% of dispatch missions can be done manually now, which is cool and also the reason why I'm horribly over-leveled. There are 400 missions. I'm pretty sure ALL of the old abilities are back. New classes are cool for the most part. Hume Parivirs (Samurai) have massive ATK gain and elemental slashes that are great. Hume Seers are sorta the Red Mage with mixed spells and a killer super move, in this case Magick Frenzy. Oh yeah, "Magic" is now "Magick" and "Gunners" are now "Fusiliers". I just realized I could keep going on so if you want more holla back. Quote:

This game went two steps forward and one step back in my opinion.
|
That's still one step forward and that's all that matters!
Also, I'm really liking the game. Haven't played the previous one's though, so THANKS AXL! Jerk. Nah, jus' kiddin'. |
For the most part, I like the game.
The law system, however... Well, it's been changed. Some ways good, some bad. The Good: -Instead of being penalized and sent to jail when you break the law, you simply lose a bonus that had been offered to you at the beginning of the match (increase in Atk/Def, boosted AP awarded at the end, etc). Oh, and you can't revive any fallen members until the end of the match if you break the law. -If you follow the law to the end, you also get some bonus items/loot. The Bad: -Some laws are COMPLETELY arbitrary and absolutely out of your realm of control. There is a law against missing. Another against scoring a critical hit. -Enemies are absolutely immune to the law now. Previously they would get penalized if they broke the law (and they tried to avoid doing so), minus the "leader" guy who would consistently get a yellow card every turn because he couldn't get in trouble for it. Now the enemies show no respect for the laws that you have to follow, and do not get penalized for breaking them. -Laws are assigned on a per-battle basis, rather than changing each "day". Thus you can't walk around a mission area waiting for an acceptable set of laws to prop up. If a mission says no Ice spells/weapons (yes, weapons are now included in the Elemental laws, be careful), it will still say no Ice spells/weapons thirty days later. But yeah. Graphical effects look prettier now (if a little samey). A lot of the kickass soundtracks from the previous game were rearranged beautifully, and there's a handful of new and nifty ones to go with as well. Your main character still looks like a fruit loop and still retains his same appearance no matter what job you give him. There are still bunnygirls and now there are cute-but-aloof-looking dragon girls as well (Which possess the completely awesome ability of flight). And those shark/pig manbeasts are here too, I don't remember their name. |
I'm sure at least some enemies in FFTA that weren't leaders were impervious to the law too. I can definetely remember seeing normal enemies break the law and not get penalised for it in that game.

I hate how there's one Law that involves not being allowed to hit more than 20 damage for the clan trials. It makes the battle HARD.
I really liked the game and, about the new races? Well... The Seeq are great in the fact that while they're about as slow as bangaa, they deal more damage more consistently. I haven't gotten a Gria yet, but they're apparently the best melee warriors ever. And, seriously, auctions are spiffy. I just wish I had a goddamn sword to teach dual wield. Oh and seriously? This game is min/maxing hell. Seriously. You have no way to find out what your actual stat growth for the level was, because, say, your Bangaa Dragoon got 13 attack on a level. The variance is 9~13. How much increased in the status? 3. The number on the status is the actual number, divided by 4. And it only shows in rounded numbers, so if you keep getting 13 attack, it'll give you 13 that shows in 4 levels. Seriously, way confusing if you want a PERFECT character. Oh, also? Speed gain is now a percentage! My characters are all below average, except for my Viera! |
