Are the majority reasonably intelligent, or is it full of twelve year olds who think yelling names of body parts is comedy gold? Cuz I'm kind of bad at first person shooters which means my ability to spam-kill the hell out of them for my own satisfaction will be seriously compromised.

Speaking of which, is there a decent server for new players?

Sorry-- This is the first time I've had a computer that's capable of running an online game, so I have no idea how they work.

It seems okay so far? Most of the voicechat comments pertain to actual gameplay, which inasmuch as they relate to me personally tend to be along the lines of "Dude you suck" and "What the fuck are you doing" but I mean, I can't really argue.

Dunno about particular servers, I mostly just jump onto whatever's open and has the lowest latency and go to town. I would say a good bet is to find something with low/zero respawn, those seem the most newbie-friendly due to the minimal punishment for getting killed.

PS: Look me up! I'm on the Steam as Fifthfiend.

So I have fallen in love with the Engineer class all over again.

I single handedly defended our last capture point pulling in a win today. I got accused of hacking, but it was all skill. ( See: Dumb-luck.)

Also, does anyone think the Backburner is a little over-powered? The attack and all that is fine, but the +50 health has shown to be a little much to me.

Fifthfiend 07-07-2008 07:13 PM

It is totally overpowered and by overpowered I mean I have one and it is glorious.

Fake-ass bot-garnered achievements, you're my best friend!

Fine, fine, it's settled. I'm gonna bite the bullet and try to install this game!! It's been sitting here for almost a week, unopened, because of my anger with Steam, but I'm really tempted to just go ahead and try it. So maybe if I try installing it now, it'll actually be working and ready to play by Friday. :shifty: I've had bad luck with Steam, but I really want to try this game.

Shotgun
Won't a scout be overpowered if given one of these?

An uzi for him instead of a soldier might work better. :D

...scatter gun is a more powerful shotgun. the main reason they took the scout's nail gun away is because it gave them alot of range

on the backburner
The backburner can also work under water if one square inch of pyro is above the water and it always gets crits on the engies stuff! also the majority of the time i still get crits even when i dont hit people in the back. i like the old one better, Because nothing says "Fuck you" like a reflected crit rocket to the face

HKCentral has really great newbie servers that I play on constantly; the community is great and there is chat that doesn't pertain to the game at hand and keeps you entertained. Yeah, I just advertised the server I play the most on, but honestly it's the best server I played on.

I think the Sniper got raped in the secondary weapon department. I mean yeah the sniper rifle is really really good and obviously the secondary weapon can't be too good, but from what I've seen so far, that uzi does fuck all.

e: Okay seriously, if you're good enough at the air blow to reflect rockets on a consistent basis than I bow down because I can reflect MAYBE 1 in 10 rockets.

Well the fire rate on rockets is higher than the fire rate on air blasts, so you'll never reflect 2 consecutive rockets. The real value of compressed air is defending sentries. You can clear off stickies and bounce uber pyros and heavies into the air, and the sentry won't ever let them down. Bouncing the occasional rocket or pipe off the gun is a nice bonus. If you air blast a demo pipe after it hits the ground, it'll turn red and counts as yours, so it won't hurt your team mates but will hurt you!

Instant respawn servers are fail. Respawn times are balanced to prevent stalemates and if you take them away it's impossible for blue to win dustbowl or goldrush.

Jagos 07-07-2008 11:08 PM

compressed air?

01d55 07-07-2008 11:19 PM

The pyro's default flamethrower has it on alt-fire. Costs 25 ammo, no damage, causes a bit of kickback on enemy players, scatters stickies, and reflects rockets or pipe bombs. If an enemy demo is near his sticky field, you can air blast the stickies into him and if he sets them off and kills himself, you get credit for killing him (there's even a bounced sticky icon).
