Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino, along with Kevin Smith, is one of my favorite writers/directors. The conversations in their movies is brilliant, because it could be anyone just sitting in a coffee shop, talking about nothing.

The reason I bring this up, is after my Pulp Fiction phase, I moved on to Resevoir Dogs, buying the movie, t-shirt and the video game. And now I wanna talk about Tarantino's flicks.

Fun Quentin Tarantino Facts:
-Inglorious Bastards, a WWII movie (rumored to be) about a group of criminals who are 'freed' in the middle of the warzone and fight (both Allied and Nazi) soldiers as they attempt to reach neutral Switzerland, is going to start filming in October! I've heard that it'll be a two parter (like Kill Bill). I'm assuming he's trimmed it down from the 600-page screenplay I read about before. Seeing as one screenplay page roughly equals a minute of actual film, I'd probably be watching Inglorious Bastards right now since the finished product would be so long as to have always existed.

From the little I've found, it sorta kinda sounds like a movie that takes place in a WWII setting (ala Black Book), as opposed to a WWII movie, so hopefully the finished product ends up that way.

-Did you know that the rape scene in Pulp Fiction originally had My Sharona as background music before, I dunno, licensing issues(?) made it not so. Have fun playing Rock Band again!

Umm...those are all the fun facts I could get from the A.V. Club.

But yeah, Tarantino is dependable for an entertaining flick, and I like that he's willing to play up to his huge ego.

Death Proof was the only Quentin movie that wasn't start to finish awesomeness.

And even still it was a good movie.

Personally I love quentin tarantino (<3 Death Proof), and I've been told I look a bit like him.

I'm reminded of a sketch by an improv comedy group I saw once.

*they do a scene* "Now someone call out a writer or director!" "Shakespeare!" *redone with old english and such* "Quentin Tarantino!" *lights flash red, one character shoots the other two*

It was hilarious.

The pop culture junkie of our parents generation.

Resevoir Dogs really made me mad the first time I saw it. I don't know why, but something in my head was going Why is it not going with the mainstream, is this even a movie!!!.

Pulp Fiction is amazing, the way everything ties together somehow solves every problem you usually have in action movies, the dialogue is great.

For the record, Inglorious Bastards is a remake.

Seriously though, where's that ultimate edition "Whole Bloody Story" Kill Bill DVD set we were promised? I've held off buying the bare-bones DVDs (which are coming to Blu-Ray soon) for so long now that I'm actually kind of annoyed. Plus, I know the second I buy them even in, like, the dollar bin, they'll announce the damn special edition.

It's not supposed to be a remake, just uses the same title. And the plot is similar, I guess, but he also says it's similar to The Dirty Dozen, Where Eagles Dare, The Guns of Navarone, etc., so...

I for one want to discuss why no one went to see Grind House (which had Death Proof as its second half, here in the U.S.)? I wasn't aware only about 10 million had been raked in as opposed to the projected 20 million until that Monday, as I went on a Saturday afternoon, and there were quite a few people there (it's a small city theater, but there were easily 50 people there seeing it at like 3 in the afternoon, the same amount I've seen watch any other apparently blockbuster flick such as Lord of the Rings, 300, etc.). I'm not sure what all those big city folks did, though, so apparently it was THEY who caused it to fail, not us. And seriously, why were people put off by a two-and-a-half hour runtime? Are these the same people who sat through the three-hours-and-forty-five-minute Return of the King? The two-and-a-half hour Pulp Fiction? Heck, Kill Bill part two was probably two and a half hours. If you liked Pulp Fiction, why wouldn't you turn up for Grindhouse when it's only about the same running time? People perplex me.

And Death Proof is just as good as his other movies if for other reasons than dialogue (which seemed fairly snappy and pop-culture referency, so I'm not sure why everyone hated it). The car chase was great, and didn't use ANY CGI, which means it wasn't just great, it was FANTASTIC. Really, I think anyone watching both Planet Terror and Death Proof, you would have to admit that Planet Terror was pretty bad in comparison, and I thought it was pretty bad for what it was doing, it didn't capture the feel of the whole thing, yet Death Proof did and was actually pretty good even compared to other movies that aren't trying to be b-movie parody-esque things.

The fake trailers were the real star of the entire thing, though, so I guess they should've just made two and a half hours of those. Anyway, if you were thinking...about watching...Grindhouse...alone...in your house...on a dark night...DON'T! I mean, DO.

Except, why they heck did they split them up for the DVD release? Just to make more money? I suppose I can just avoid buying Planet Terror since I though it was a dud, but then I probably won't get the Machete trailer, which is like the best thing ever, so I don't know what to do.

the problem with Death Proof was that the trailers painted it as Fuck Yeah Car Battle Awesome, but what we got was Four Cunts Talking In A Bar.
