Bad Day

So, today at work, my coworker accidentally slammed one of my fingers in a sliding door, I got a papercut under my fingernail on another finger, and then twisted my ankle. What the hell? I'm obviously being punished for something.

Anyone else have stories, preferably better than mine, of days when you just know you should've stayed in bed?

So the dolls are working. Good good.

I'm having one of those for like the last two weeks.

There are two shifts that you can work in my position - 5 am to 2 pm, and 2 pm to 11 pm. I prefer the latter. The day guy, Ray, prefers the morning. We have a guy Marty to take care of the rest.

Well Ray has a bad back, but instead of taking care of it and bending/crouching/lifting the right way, he just is too stubborn and stupid to bother so he throws his back out every few months, meaning me and Marty need to work doubletime to get it to work.

Well now he's out for several weeks, so I'm working 6 day weeks, usually 10 of them back-to-back, and I have absolutely no free time to continue a DND campaign we just started. Better yet the bosses can't fire him cause we're kinda-sorta Union so he's got job security, meaning that him fucking up his back and constantly not being able to work is not his fault despite yes it fucking is and he needs to be fired for raping the company.

So, yeah, I'm having a bad month.

But at least you're getting a lot of hours. And overtime.

So you picked up a few bumps and bruises? I'm a construction worker and accident prone toward myself. Thats like everyday, I feel your pain. But on the other hand, if youre not dead, youre better off for it.

Except no. 10 days back to back is usually tuesday-saturday, then the next week it's sunday through thursday. This is the first day that I'm actually 6, unquestionably, on one week. Better yet is the other party member works in Produce but they made him be a UC so I could get days off.

So, we can't play DND until Ray comes back, and I'm sure he's going to milk this for all its worth until he does it again later.

Wasn't particularly horrible, but the only sort of wounds I'm supposed to get in this job or scars from the scalding hot grease that splashes on my arms everytime I flip a burger.

I actually had a bad experience yesterday. To save myself time, and because I don't think it's awkward, here's a copy-pasted conversation I had with a friend about it.

I made the same screw up, twice, within the same day (within one hour, I think). So, when people come to our store and trade in games, that get's put onto their account, which they then use to buy other games. Simple idea, really; keeps people coming back and all that. Anyway, so this kid, Damon, used to be a regular before he drew some inappropriate things on the windows of our store, was in (I don't know why we let him back in, but whatever). First he bought a teenage mutant ninja turtles game for the Xbox; it wasn't what he wanted, but more on that later. So, he had about $20 in his account. Unfortunately, I guess I wasn't paying attention, because when I was filling out what he paid and from where (it can be by credit card, cash, or in-store credit) I put the money into cash instead of in-store credit like I was supposed to, so the system read that as him giving me $8.99 cash, so no amount was subtracted from his in-store credit. I tell Tim, my manager, he voids the transaction and does it the right way himself, and I help someone else. Sometime shortly after, Damon comes in again, and says that he meant to buy the game for the PS2 and was hoping to get a return or something. It's not in our policy though, so I couldn't help him. While he was there, he decided to get another game; some star wars thing; and I did it again. This time, though, I didn't catch myself in time before Damon left, and Tim was just leaving for his hour long lunch. Before he came back I covered the difference in the till myself, and had thoughts of not even telling Tim... But I respect him and the store too much to lie like that. So, when Tim came back, I told him what happened, and he almost got angry. I think he was more dissappointed though. I used to be "The best part-timer ever!" And I was well on my way to learning about the older games and becoming a good representative of Play N' Trade, but then I start messing up more often, and then this.

So today was much better, but I still felt pretty horrible because of that. I'd go into why I don't feel so bad anymore, but that's not a tale I can describe here.

Well today I thought, "Oooh I can run a very informative experiment today" afte having got some pleasing results last few days.
So not only did my experiment fail to produce any results at all (as in every test I ran came back negative), I blew up my heating filament, displaced a gasket and blasted a whole lot of nitrogen dioxide through the vented system. So my excitement at finally getting some results has turned to despair at the weeks its going to take to fix everything.

At 6:30, work called and said, "Hey, you said you'd cover for Chase from 6:00 to 9:00... Where are you?"

I saw that voicemail at 7:00...

Scared the crap out of me...

Turned out it was their fault for marking it on the schedule wrong and confusing me...
