Newbies look here

Before you post anything go here and read all the rules.

And if you want to introduce your self go here

Thank you.

(BTW to the mods this might be a good thread to stick to the top to help slow down the flow of useless posts by new people introducing themselfs and asking for help.)

No offense, but with titles such as "The Introduction Thread" and "Please Read the Rules before posting!" and the fact that they are already stickied, I really don't see the reason for this thread to also be stickied. Or exist.

The problem is a sort of illiteracy combined with laziness. One more thread will only add to the clutter, not really solve it. We can only hope the new people get a little smarter as they arrive.

I agree with synkr0nized. Gaia Has these threads everywhere, some stickied, some not. The problem is that every rules thread points to another rules thread that usually says the same thing. Often times noobs are told to look at the rules twenty times in thier first day. It can get really annoying. Also remember that for a forum like ours, we get about one "I'm new" thread a week and the same thing with double posters. It only takes one telling to set them straight. Adding clutter to the mix can only hurt the good n00bs who read the rules when they first join.

They're right. Besides that, when you actually first sign up, theres text at the top of the screen telling you to read the rules before you post, and to post introductions in the introduction thread.

Deathosaurus Wrecks 04-03-2004 05:20 PM

but that requires people reading things, and if theres one thing i've learned from observing people: its that they dont read things. especialy when these things they should be reading are important signs or warnings of some kind.

Dr DR 04-03-2004 05:44 PM

When I first came here I didn't read the rules thread... but then again I had enough damn common sense not to break any of the common sense rules anyway.

synkr0nized 04-04-2004 02:26 AM

Johnny Socko, that was indeed my second point.
If you feel you cannot rely on a newbie's reading abilities and common sense, how will another thread concerning the exact same rules and introductions fare any better?

In the words of Black Mage :bmage: Stab this thread to death."

I can excuse newbs if they are indeed newbs to the concept of forums. However, There are certain no-nos which are fairly universal.

1)No double posting, triple posting, etc etc
2)No pointless insulting, normally called flaming, or trolling. Even if encouraged by a flamer or troll on the other end, DO NOT REPLY IN KIND.
3)No "Hi I'm New!" or "Hi! I love {insert main topic-of/ source-of forum here} threads. Introduce yourself if you must, but do it in the designated area, or in addition to a reply to a topic you have something to say about.
4)Don't argue with the Mods about Moderation and Administration. If you don't like the moderation team or moderation style, don't protest. Just Leave. It obviously isn't 'your-kind' of forum.
5)Post topics which to pertain to the general topic of one of the forum's sections, IN IT'S CORRECT SECTION. I.E. Do not post "The new Final Fantasy suxorz" in the general section, when there is a video games section below it.

So if you've been on a forum before, you know these.
