Breath of Fire 6 possibly by Camelot?

So the mere rumor of a rumor about this makes me excited.

Camelot set to revive Breath of Fire series?
Adam Riley on June 26th, 2008 at 9:26

During a recent interview, Camelot Software Planning’s renowned heads of company, Hiroyuki and Shugo Takahashi, who like to be known simply as ‘The Takahashi Brothers’, revealed that they have been bumping up their depleted role-playing development team and are now more than happy to take on almost any project thrown at them.

Speaking with UK website Cubed³ in an interview set to be published this weekend about the impending Wii release of We Love Golf, which is being published by Capcom, The Takahashi Brothers were asked about future work with the publisher that is well-known for big hits such as Resident Evil, Street Fighter and Devil May Cry. Considering Camelot’s previous experience in the role-playing game field, and how Capcom has been neglecting its popular RPG franchise ‘Breath of Fire’ since the fifth entry on the PlayStation 2, Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, released in Japan back in November 2002, the question of would they be willing to resurrect it seemed quite an obvious one. And the response was certainly more than slightly positive, as can be seen below:

Cubed3.com: Considering your current deal with Capcom, and the fact that the company has left its Breath of Fire series untouched for far too long, would you ever give consideration to tackling the resurrection of that RPG franchise?

Hiroyuki and Shugo Takahashi, Camelot Software Planning: We get asked this a lot recently. The development team is extremely important in making an RPG and when some of the team left after Mario Tennis GBA we had to say it wasn’t possible. Lately, however, the gap is being filled and I’m quite confident to take on pretty much anything. It is possible to start planning for titles such as the Breath of Fire series. As I mentioned earlier, the number of games we can develop at a time is quite limited so we would like to consider what people want the most in order to determine the next title for development.

Golden Sun 3 or bust. I don't care about no stinkin' Breath of Fire.

That said, I'm really lacking on JRPGs. I might as well give it a try if this ends up substantiating.

There's a reason why Breath Of Fire VI doesn't exist yet. It's called Breath of Fire V and the fact that it is completely different from the other games in the series and the whole fact that when you turn into a dragon to screw your enemies, you're actually screwing yourself.

Despite loving Breath of Fire, the thing I noticed most is the Wii golf game is called We Love Golf.

On topic, woo. New Breath of Fire and new Camelot RPG.

You are aware that Dragon Quarter is the top selling entry in the series in Japan?

I don't get why people bitch about it being different. Thats how games evolve, if they don't mix things up we end up with the same old rehashed crap over and over. (Arguably the biggest flaw in the JRPG scene.)

It was different from previous entries? Sure. Was it a bad game? No, in fact it was a pretty fun game once you got used to it. It wasn't perfect, but I have never played a game that was.

While Camelot has made some decent RPGs, and some good, they have also made some totally abysmal ones, too. Plus, they have the tendency to make dialogue and other things extremely tedious to mow through.

Its one of the most unique and innovative JRPGs. Arguably one of the best too.

YES! BOF6! YES! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will buy whatever console this comes out one, even the Wii, and I loathe the Wii.

Ryong 07-18-2008 06:39 PM

BoF5 contained some of the things I hate most in RPGs: Futuristic, but everyone still uses swords and such, but with nanotechnology. Or something. Also, save tokens. Also, there's the whole D-Counter thing. It's like .hack// with the data drain thing, only it damages you permanently. And the whole thing on how changes are good? Why people bitched SO GODDAMN MUCH about FFX and FFXII? I think I can hate BoFV. Mind you, one of my favourite games ever is BoFIV, heck, it's even where my nickname comes from, damnit.

Seriously? Cause if so that's hella lame. Like, making magic an item and then tying it directly to your character stats, lame.

Ryong 07-18-2008 06:56 PM

The moment I saw Fifth replied, I expected a comment on changes in JRPGs and Chrono Cross. You've disappointed me.

But, yes, turning into a dragon, while allowing you to kill everything, ends up locking up a few places where you can get a bunch of great stuff. I think it also causes an instant gameover if you use it too much, but not sure.

Edit: Oh wait no, it's ANOTHER thing that locks up the places. But it requires you to complete the game in under 8 hours and a bunch more of things.
