"Like zoinks, Avatar is over Scoob!" "Iroh Raggy, Ret's Discuss!" (With SPOILERS!!!)

Well, that was a finale. I did like that they didn't try to half-ass some way to turn Aang's 11th Hour Superpower into some way to continue on Airbending like I feared they might (I do like the series title), and the fights were great for the most part.

Didn't particularly enjoy seeing Azula turn into crazy laugh girl.

Fifthfiend 07-20-2008 01:13 PM

I thought Azula could have been handled a lot better but the way they did handle her was still pretty good. Her whole thing was about ruthlessly grasping for power at any cost so when she finally had it she had no flippin' idea what to do. Plus it seemed pretty clear that having Suki and Mai turn against her had cracked something so this felt like a fairly natural outgrowth of that.

I did think Zuko agreeing to the solo fight was kind of stupid as it would have been nice just once fuckin' ever for Zuko not to play into her hands.

Lumenskir 07-20-2008 01:24 PM

Thinking it over, the laughing was really the only thing I would have changed. I enjoyed her banishing everyone who dared to stare at her, and the hair and mirror talk was good, but the laughing just shifted it from "Oh, Azula's going crazy" to "HEY GUYS LOOKIT AZULAS DONE GONE SHIT LOCO".

Also, I like how they made it seem like Piandao was on par with the other White Lotus members, and his entire contribution is slicing off a few spear heads, the prick.

Although I like that they didn't time skip ahead, I am saddened that we don't get to see the inevitable outcome of the timeskip, namely Sokka emerging from a threesome with Ty Lee and Suki.

Does anyone recall exactly what is needed to have new air nomads? I do not think the creators of the series would have left such a glaring hole in the story as the fact when the next fire avatar dies, there is no air bender left to reincarnate into.

Aang and Katara have a lot of work to do. >.>

Didn't the plot island deal with this? He mentioned a time before there was an Avatar, so I assumed it was the writer's implying that the world was about to enter a new Post-Avatar age. It's not like the world exactly needs one, seeing as Aang explicitly went against the Avatar State's desires and still got the job done.

And again, it's right there in the title, Last Airbender.

I kind of remember the creators saying that children get their bending according to their spiritual leaning. So, assuming Aang and Katara procreate, their children may end up being either waterbenders or airbenders, depending on the teachings of their parents. Maybe the next airbender Avatar will be a descendant of Aang.

Or, if they are a lousy family, they may end up being like Sokka.

I think if there were no airbenders the cycle would just skip over them. If the cycle were going to completely end, I think they would have had to really address something like that in the ep.

Did anyone else feel that a rock hitting his scar unlocking the Avatar State, was a bit of a cop out? I guess he unlocked the 7th chakra in CoD, and it was relocked by Azula, but it still felt a bit too Deus Ex Machinaesque.
If Aang had to temporarily let go of Katara again, that would have been a more satisfying way of doing it, and it would have dealt with the problem brought up by the conversation in Ember Island Players.

So, I'm going to watch 3x18~20 now...Isn't there supposed to be 21? Or is 20 just a hour long?

Zuko's mom, aka, they can leave things unaddressed all they want.

But still, it's all just conjecture, so maybe.

A giant talking island from a time before bending had just used magic on him, I didn't really think it was too outrageous by then.

Yeah, it's 18-21, four parts.
