Getting rid of something on my computer help.

One of my friends was on my computer when I was doing something else, then when I came back I noticed on Internet Exploring, there was a new toolbar, iSearch. He claims he does not know where it came from (Bull), so I assume it actomatically downloaded when he went to some site (Probably porn).

The problem is that the toolbar annoys me, and I cannot get rid of it. It won't allow me to remove or add any toolbars to view (They are greyed out), I can't figure out how to un-grey them, and I can't find the iSearch files anywhere on my computer.

Anyone know of a way for me to find and delete the toolbar?

Well, there is of course the classic Add/Remove Programs option, but it sounds like you may have tried that. Use a Spyware cleaner would be my second suggestion. If that doesn't work either, do an internet search fro something like Remove iSearch and you may find a site.

Internet search, I did not think of that. I did both of your first two suggestions as well as searching the computer itself.

So, I guess my question is answered and this thread could be closed. Although, I've been getting more pop ups then usually (Never did before while only on the forum), and not entirely sure why.

Get spybot. it should take the stuff out, I think.

If your getting more popups then usual, after you remove the iSearch and do a cleanup with Spybot, try restarting your computer. It might help your computer back to normal. Never had a problem with iSearch before though, so I don't know what it does or how to totally clean it out and stop it's effects. If you have XP, try dong Alt-Ctrl-Delet, and look at the Processes, not Applications. You might be able to spot the unusual programs on your computer that way. Anything that seems suspicious, try a websearch of it to see what it is. It is slow, but methodical, and should clear out any active programs causing you trouble.

Pop ups have stopped (Almost, but will soon), and I've got no problems left, so this thread is no longer needed.

i have that same problem. Hate, what exactly did you turn up in your internet search?

This is why I bought McAffe. The internet makes me paranoid, for no good reason.

..... disregard all other spyware distroying programs.
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/index.html
hijack this distroys ALL spyware, with NO limitations. it scans everything on your computer, you look through it, anything out of the ordinary, you delete. registries, files, folders, programs, anything at all. brilliant. no i was not paid to say this.

Hamelin 04-04-2004 10:04 AM

yes, but the thing about that kind of spyware remover is that if you don't know what you're doing, you might inadvertadly delete something that your computer needs to run.

Ad-Aware and Spybot are safer.
