Improve your vocabulary and help a worthy cause!

Play this game to challenge yourself, improve your vocabulary, and help to fight world hunger, one word at a time. Spread the word.

Oh, and if you want to brag, post your vocabulary level as well.

Mods, if there is a better subforum to move this to, please feel free to do so. Also, because it assists a rather important philanthropic cause, I'd like to request it stickied somewhere, if possible. Thanks.

Does anyone else know of any games online that might contribute to worthy causes as well?

Well, considering that (according Rice Mill's a rice producer) there are over 29,000 grains of rice in a pound, and a pound of rice costs about $1.50, and each question there is 20 grains...

I suggest a little game I like to call: If you really care, pick a charity and donate ten bucks.

Hatake Kakashi 07-24-2008 07:09 AM

Granted, yes, it's a tiny, tiny bit. But when many, MANY people get playing (and yes, the site generates plenty of traffic), it starts to snowball a bit. Took me about an hour to donate a pound according to those figures, playing off and on while my character on one of the MMOs I play regenerates stamina and luck time. Not a bad thing, considering it cost me nothing but time I would have just stared at the screen doing nothing anyway.

We've already done this thread before: http://www.nuklearforums.com/showthread.php?t=25524

I'm doing fairly well with a nice solid 40, even if some of these words are just plain silly.

You know, if a pound of rice is really that cheap and it took you an hour to make enough rice for it...

Couldn't you just do 3 minutes of honest work and make the same donation yourself?

Meister 07-24-2008 03:19 PM

I was just thinking, imagine Wikimedia placed those sponsor banners on all Wikipedia article pages for webcomics, comic book movies and Sonic the Hedgehog.

There wouldn't be enough rice in the universe.

I did not mention this, but I do honest work for a living (it's how I pay my bills, including that for the internet), and I already give to local charities. Why not add a little more fuel to the fire in new ways? As they say, every little bit helps.

You did read the rest of that, right? As I was gaming, and my character was resting, I'd alt + tab and play. Intermittent sessions adding up.

Also, thanks everyone for your contributions. Sadly, it seems a few of us are too jaded to bother. Or maybe I'm just tired right now, and irritable, and am reading some of the responses incorrectly.

I was more concerned about the companies sponsoring it. Cause they'll get all this publicity that they are so helpful and good companies when really this will cost them piss all. So the site to me just like a huge amount of free publicity.

SMB raises a good point. Wouldn't any advertisements on the site pay more for the show time that they're on there than the site pays for the rice on that kind of rice/hour ratio?
