It was a PS2 game by Shinji Mikami, the guy that helped make Resident Evil, Viewtiful Joe and Devil May Cry. It was a parody of old beat 'em ups (like Double Dragon) and anime (specifically Fist of the North Star), and featured alot of inside jokes involving Capcom. Despite the punch 'em and walk-to-the-next-screen style gameplay, it was crazy deep, because you could collect different moves and design your own fighting style. You could designate what buttons combinations did which series of moves, gathering from a pool of holy-crap-that's-alot. So you could string together some fairly basic jab-cross-hook combinations... or throw in mule kicks, drunken boxing, breakdance fighting, or just show off.
It was also hard as hell. Like, alot of Mikami's fanbase agree that Godhand, at it's best, is harder than most Devil May Cry's on their's.
Depending on who you ask, it's either one of the greatest games ever made, or absolute crap. IGN gave it a 3/10, Gamespot gave it an 8. It makes alot of "Games You've Never Played But Should" and "Underrated Games" lists, since--well, not alot of people have played it. It definitely deserved more press than it got, but I think alot of people avoided it on the idea that it was just another generic beat 'em up. It had alot of graphical issues too, but it didn't detract from the gameplay any. Plus Clover Studios folded after making the game, but I'd love to see someone else pick up the ball and roll with it. It was an amazing game that was way too short and way not popular enough.
