Online gaming suggestions

So I just got my ps3 connected (finally) to the net and I'm looking for some good online games to make the most of it, cos at the moment I'm just playing TF2. I've got MGS and GTA, but I didn't really get into GTA when I tried it at a friends and MGS was actually quite boring, and not to mention the ludicrous download times it seems to have for the online content, which has so far detered me from even bothering with the install.

I also don't want to get CoD4, because despite all the raving over that game I found it to be seriously broken in multiplayer and I think it desperately needs some game balancing issues sorted out.

I was thinking of buying Warhawk and/or Unreal 3, but I'm not sure just how good either of them are. Can anyone confirm whether they're any good or have any other suggestions for games?

I play Unreal Tournament 3 on PC quite a bit and can vouch for it being an extremely good game, even with a gamepad. I can't vouch for the PS3 version however.

Warhawk is beast and definitely worth your money.

It'll take some snooping on the PS Network, but if you can find how to set up the PS2 HDD program thingy there, you could get the Vana'deil collection for the PS2, and have it set up on the PS3(I am assuming your PS3 has some backwards compatability).

Dunno if you like MMOs or not, but it'd be a different experience on a console.

Warhawk just got an expansion. I'm vouching for Warhawk to eat away your multiplayer time. Especially when you get into the jet battles...

Warhawk is pretty freakin sweet. Id reccomend Resistance, but R2 is out in like 2 months, so it probably wouldnt be worth it. Soul Calibur 4 is out in like what, 3 days-ish? Thats gonna be great.

everyone, add me, PSN: Joshelplex

No, my ps3 isn't backwards compatible. That said I'm not likely ever to pick up an MMO again, been there, done that. Except for Borderlands, cos that sounds awesome. I'm after next-gen games anyway really.

Yeah, with R2 coming out soon there'd be no point, in either of them, seeing as I've never played the first anyway so the plot of the single player would be lost on me if I bought the sequel, and the multiplayer base will probably die as soon as 2 comes out. Sort of a lose lose there.

And I'm still undecided on SC4, it started to lose its wow factor once they started to add all those crappy new characters and that armour break system. If it gets amazing reviews I might try it, but I'm more interested in SF4 for my beat 'em up needs.

At this point I think Warhawk is probably going to be the best. Are the expansions for that only sold online, and how much are they?

Jagos 07-27-2008 03:32 PM

Expansions are in the Playstation Store. That's where they are all sold. But updates are free. There are currently only two expansions available for Warhawk...

Operation:Omega Dawn
Operation:Broken Mirror

Resistance 2 is worth it for the multiplayer alone. 8 man co-op, 60 man versus. Theres not even much story in R1 anyways.

As for Soulcal, the armor break is so people dont turtle. I agree on the characters though. I didnt know if you like 2D fighters, but yea, SF4 will be amazing.

The Warhawk exspansions come in a $13 bundle on PSN, though they really arent neccesary.

Give MGO another try though, it can be really good when you arent playing with stupid douches who are trying to get Foxhound rank.

The only PS3 games I've got at the moment are:

Assassin's Creed
Metal Gear Solid 4
Dark Sector

I've been on the wall about getting Resistance, Uncharted and Warhawk for some strange reason. Primarily 'cause there's no one to play with. What's Warhawk like?

(One of the reasons I'm not glued to my PS3 right now is I just bought an XBox. Sue me - it was 30 bucks and I wanted to play some Halo.)

Not to derail, but the armor breaking system is 90% fluff visuals. When you have all your armor broken and your Soul Gage is flashing red you can get One Hit KOd, meaning it punishes turtlers. It also almost never shows up when you have two good to average fighters.

Just wanted to clear that up, as when I first heard about armor breaking I was like "Aw hell no" because I thought it was some godawful gimmick where certain attacks were better at breaking armor and therefore cheap as hell since armor breaking increased the damage you took and blah blah.
