A New MUD (You're Opinion)

My friend and I are creating a new Mud for our RPG called Eternal Destiny. It's set on a world called Alta at mix of Lord of the Rings monarchies and Final Fantasy VII industries. You can be one of so far 15 races including Humans, the lizard people Viashino, the bird people Aven, Elves, Dwarves, the cat people called Nephils, the three eyed humans called Jugon, the monkey (or if you're really imaginative Saiyan-Like) people called Genomes (that's Jee-Nome), the wasp-ant beings called Inects, the water people Aquatians, the squid-like Cephadrids, the corrupt elf-troll Orcs, the dog (or Ronso) people called the Folves, the new race of the industry-Mech, and the dark hearted lesser dragons-the Draken (dra-ken). Within each race are at the bare minimum 15 different Jobs (Knight, Black-Mage, Lancer, etc) that you can choose from. The world is at a point where Kingdoms are fighting against the Industrial Giants, and when you join in, you're a new part of the struggle.

How many people would be interested in playing this as a Mud or a forum style? I'll post more info if you're interested.

Sounds interseting.

actualy, it sounds kind of cool. i like the races, some good, imaginative choices there. the LotR/FFVII inspired world i feel rather indifferent twoards, but im sure you're just using them as a reference point.

I like the large amount of race choices, a lot of variety there. I'm also a fan of job systems, so this has my interest. Is this project in progress? Does it have a name? I've tried a few HUDs before, but I've been turned off by complicated command systems. Please, tell us more.

The name of the MUD is Eternal Destiny.
The job system involves you being a certain job for a certain amount of time, then unlocking newer and more powerful jobs. Which we still need to work on.

Command system is...well, we're trying to find a way to make it user friendly and not have it so complicated, but it's gonna take time.

And about the time period, I'll explain again. Alta has just came out of it's world war called the First End. After the war, industry has taken root to make lives easier for everyone, but the Kingdoms. Technology is about the same as seen in Final Fantasy VII (advanced, but not Future Star Trek/Wars, Gundam, Z.O.E. advanced), and the people are still part of towns and cities that are either controlled by Industrial Empires or Old Monarchies. Both sides are essentially at war and have encouraged everyone of Alta to become adventurers and travel around in order to make the choice of which side their on. As a player, you're an adventurer that is doing whatever you want to support whatever side you're on.
But there are more forces at work than just the Kingdoms vs. Industry.

Thanks for the input, we're still developing the jobs, weapons, armor, mythology, and history as well as the Mud. I'll keep you posted.

Wow, sounds interesting for once. Will this be an actual program? If it is, it would fair a lot better than a regular forum RPG. If you could make a text mud it would be great, but even those who claim they love them, you gotta admit that text muds sometimes get boring. Let's face it--people like graphics. The name slips my mind at the moment, but the best online-RPG I ever played was essentially a text-mud with a visual interface. it was very creative. I'll try to find the link, but if you could at least make simple graphics it would be cool.

then again i might be missing the whole point here.

well, alls we've got for "graphics" are our Anime Style concept art of the races, a map of Alta, and some of the boss NPC characters drawn. But, we'll need alot of time to make this a visual and text mud.
Very Good suggestion, thanks.

Sounds interesting, will their be a race pk war between people on the side of industry and people on the side of the old school?

Lockeownzj00 04-04-2004 11:35 PM

I suggest using simple sprites and sprite maps. Again, worked for that other mud i played. i'm not asking, but if quote unquote "positions" ever open up, i'll be happy to make graphics from logos to sprites.

There is no war, in the fact that there are BIG battles, but you could try and start a big battle. You'll probably be killed by the Administrators and/or everyone else.
