There's a problem, though. At what distance does the shield start noticing the attack? Or, how does it handle multiple attacks at the same time? |
360rad/sec is effectively instantaneous. Most optimal attack offensively only requires a 180 degree pivot, achieved in .5 seconds, only .1 second slower than human mean reaction time (mental, aphysical.)
I suppose you could shoot him... Reliably you'd require two simultaneous ranged attacks from opposing vectors. |
Holy crap. I turn my back on this thread for a few seconds and it turns into a physics class.
I've decided to cut the game down to 10 people, which is going to be less than half of who signed up. I'm starting the elimination process now, but I probably won't have the list completed tonight. Look for it sometime tomorrow or Sunday, with the RP starting a few days after that. EDIT: Oops! Sorry, I forgot to answer your question, Phoenix. Sure, you can have a camera. One of the little details I'm trying to decide on is if I want devil bodies to hang around, or if they fade out like in the game (since most of the in-game ones have a proper fade-out animation), so you might have to be quick on the uptake to get a picture. |

So unless you're pretty far away (and longer range guns would travel even faster so it would be negated) its not gonna block it. |
Depends on the shield's priority and if it begins tracking threats before they attack or only intercepts immediate attacks in transit. The dual vector approach proposed by Ecurt works, as would shortrange rifle shots, I suppose, though demons don't tend to use rifles.
Single melee attacker is going to have a hell (no pun intended) of a time, though, without serious area attack potential. |
Speaking of Hell...
Am I the only one that got "Mother of Hell" vibes after reading TB's first post? |

Well, you know...talk of devils and demons and whatnot, much the same tone. I'm still trying to figure out why most of my RPs have a darker tone to them...well, at least the ones that end up being successful. Evil's Return was pretty dark, and I freaked myself out with some of the things I came up with during Paradox. This one is somewhat of a middle ground. At face value, the subject matter of the Devil May Cry series is pretty dark, but Dante is so over the top it comes off as lighter than it really is (really, it is. The plots of the DMC games (outside of 2...which doesn't really do a good job at expounding on the plot in the first place) are pretty dark). Hopefully, we can walk that middle ground successfully. |

Though, I'm talking less about the demons and all that, and more about the High School you mentioned, and more specifically High School girls who may or may not be chased by after demons. |
Profile edited. All done. Lemmie know if it needs fixing.

Woo, finally completed my profile, just in time!
Name: Vespa Adea Gender: Female Age: 20 Appearance: Wasp waisted and fit, Vespa tends to keep up a tidy appearance. She has shoulder length blonde hair, typically tied back and large blue eyes. To help conceal her Devil Arm when on the job, she's taken to wearing coats with voluminous sleeves. Background: Vespa never sought the invisible world that the demons dwell in. Instead, one year ago, it found her. There are always those who seek power at any cost and, for whatever reason, they kidnapped someone who believed herself no-more than an ordinary medical student and planned to use her in a demonic ritual. Drugged and sigil daubed by the cultists, no-one came in time to save her. But, with demons gone for so long, the cultists' knowledge was imperfect. The summoning was botched and instead Vespa received The Many. With the Devil Arm upon her hand and in no sane state of mind, she slaughtered them like a demon herself. She came to herself in the aftermath and fled the scene. A few hours later, buzzing wings haunting her dreams, she found it necessary to return. She was able to liberate a number of the cult's occult texts, including the ever helpful translations. From there, she learned about the secret world and, inch by inch, entered the demon hunting profession. Devil Arm Name: The Many Weapon Type: Gauntlet Element: Magic Description: A chitinous, oversized guantlet, The Many reaches up to the elbow and is much thicker than Vespa's arm, covered in heavy plates. Its mass is doted with small apertures, usually closed. Skills: Swarm: The Many is really a hive of vicious insectoid minor demons. They're essentially flying weapons, about thumb sized and possessing large mandibles, sharp claws and an envenomed stinger. The Many can release a multitude of the bee like creatures, attacking at Vespa's command. Additionally, it can fire small quanities of the creatures at high speed. The drones die if they stay out of the hive for too long, depleting their meager supply of energy. Delirium Strains: The venom of The Many's drones causes vivid hallucinations, disorientating and confusing those affected by it. The weapon itself can extend thorny stingers, secreting the same poison. Royal Guard: Calling back the bees, they form a protective carapace out of their own bodies. Seriously cuts down offensive power, but strong defense and it can get costly in drone death. Strength of Many: The Many vastly boosts the strength of Vespa's left arm. The effect is weakened if Vespa sends out more than half of the drones. Wing Stair: Vespa can use her drones as midair platforms, if only for a split second. The drone emits a bright yellow flash when used in this way, burning off most of its energy and will die if its energy is too low. Random Notes: The Many seems to have a symbiotic relationship with Vespa. She feels at her best when she has it with her and sickens if parted from it. Let's make the power of such a weapon perfectly clear. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3.../beeweapon.jpg Anyway, I'm still not entirely decided about a few abilities, so I'll see what you think. I went with a bit of a queen bee idea for the wielder. There may also be the possibility of using the drones as spies, but I don't really know if that'll come up in this RP. |
What about the bees attacking your teammates?

World is going mad about my shield...
Let's make (more)stuff (more)straight: -Radius is the distance between the circle center and its edge. So Golem is 2ft diameter(bit less cause it's cut out of a bigger sphere). -Golem will not attempt to intercept objects that already entered the area, so no such thing like weapon being broken or body cut off by a swinging shield(unless you intentionally hold it in a way it can't block other attacks, but then you'd probably just go with the shield...). -Golem has a "perfect" reaction time. The moment something is on it's way to enter the area it protects, he enters a interception course. -It can't stop gunfire on short range, but it'll try and if you'll miss it'll probably stay in a position where from it'll be able to stop other shots from the same direction. -The priority is given to the attack that'll be first to reach the protected area, not necessarily the fastest or strongest. Dunno what else I could add... Melee isn't something this "Guardian" is supposed to be used against... |

I move that they be magical hornets.
|
They're about the size of Japanese hornets.
Really, I said bee as a shortcut. They're more horrible bee-wasp-hornet-beetle-insect things! |
It doesn't matter what they are, I'll be allergic to them.

Alright, I've made my choices. Will the following people please form a line at the front of the room:
Thomas Reese (Hawk) Yukari Shimizu (PhoenixFlame) Lazarus (Arcanum Darkfire) Vespa Adea (BioSho - I mean, Arhra) Krista Hestin (Mauve Mage) David Tiydel (Steel Shadow) Aaron Gravely (lazy man) Bryce Dunnsen (Gir) Raphael (Krylo) You know the TMNT jokes are comin'... Vincent Salvatine (Inbred Chocobo) Congratulations to those who made it, my apologizes to those who didn't. I know from my own experience that it can be a time consuming process to come up with a character. You have my gratitude for your interest, and for taking the time to make a character. HOWEVER: Given the popularity of this sign-up, and given the fact that slimming can and will happen, I am setting up an alternates list. Alternates will be introduced to replace characters who have dropped out, but not immediately (i.e.: I'll wait for a point in the game that it makes sense for a new character to pop up, I won't throw in a new character in willy-nilly). If you wish to be on the alternates' list, either post here or PM me. Please note that the complete alternates list will remain confidential, and that I will pick and chose which alternate goes in when. Please keep any comments, complaints, vents, rants, or what-have-you about not being chosen off of this thread. If you really feel you must say something about it, send me a PM. I'm not going to change the list now, unless one of the chosen players drops out. Really, you're best bet for getting into the game is the alternates list. Look for the RP to start soon. |
Those who didn't made it here, I can offer a try at my Artifact Magic RP concept. It's basically the same thing except that you can get more magical stuff and are limited to teenage characters.
If I would complain about who you chose I'd ask for reasons why you aproved the characters you did... :P |
I wanna be on the alt list, please.

Hey, Toasty--This guy's actually useful.
Good call on keeping him around. |
Why not move that post into a new discussion thread, Krylo?
This thread's past the 100 post point, anyway. |
Bah, listing and linking. Bastard stole my thing.
And I've yet to grow bored of a demon cigarette, so alt list I guess. |

'Sides, may as well wait to make a new thread until the RP goes up, as it should be soonish. |
Thread closed for limit, new discussion up.
