Soul Calibur 4 Thread - Featuring Solid Snake!
No, I'm not kidding.
Between the abandonment of the shit-hole "class" system that has been a horrible addition to SC ever since 2, the inclusion of rather cool although gimmicky Star Wars characters, updated and polished character creation, and online play, I think this will revive my interest in the series as well as wash that awful SC3 taste from my mouth. Sure gameplay balance is going to get shot right to hell in a while, but till then, I'm happy! Picking up my copy tomorrow morning and just had to post those images, but didn't want to clog it with a "Pre-game random thread". |
Gotta post this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=f5mgc2O1TTc
So shit, does that mean that character exclusivity meant nothing? |
I have heard that the SW cahracters are DLC, but I have also heard that that video is fake, andI know several were pulled, so Im not sure. All I know is, Imma go get myself a copy in a few hours.

Huh?
>.> <.< Featuring... me? ... ...(checks link.) GAH! That looks nothing like me. What a terrible rendition of my mullet and my masculine physique. Now Raiden, they nailed him down. What a wuss. |
SC3 had a much better Mullet. Tis a shame. Oh well, guess I can make Kirk Hammet with an ...ugh... decent haircut.

Got the game and futzed around with it before work.
There is no shitty campaign mode. Just Arcade mode, Story mode for unlocking characters (Which is beating, like, five people with special rules), and then variants there of. There is no terrible Chronicles of the Sword. Happy motherfuckin day. Yoda is interesting. He is horribly slow and his 8-way dash makes him leap into the air in the direction. His "Force" moves include a Guard Impact, his Unblockable, and a few techniques he has that allow him to "Double jump" in the air and keep comboing. I haven't delved further but I'm planning on it tonight. The new head evil villain - replacing Abyss - is an updated and tweaked Necrid, and he's awesome. He even gets some techs that the custom characters from SC3 had, I noticed one from Revenant especially. Nightmare's voice is now hideously evil. Updates as I play. |
...I liked Chronicles of the Sword. :(
Well, except for the part where it corrupts your save file. I plan to get this game ASAP once I get my Xbox back. |
I'm now at level 11 on PSN. Something like 34 wins and 19 losses or something.
Game's solid. Online play is also good, if you don't mind dealing with ultra-cheese strategies every once in a while. I fought an Ivy who kept spamming the same combo -- I think it was B, B --and the reach of Ivy's weapon actually made it devestating. Normally you just GI the game-whizzes that do that sort of thing, but in online play there's occasionally a bit of lag. Just enough to turn an easy, obvious GI into a GI that's obviously easy to miss. Ugh. Other than that, this game is everything SC3 was supposed to be and more, though it still has some balance issues. They're just not as prevalent. Maxi will still beat you if you let him get one attack off, and Mitsurugi's offensive onslaught is as strong as ever. I'm mostly happy with SC4. They fixed (most of) what needed fixing and left alone the rest, which is a little disappointing but mostly gratifying; nothing good got ruined, but it's open to discussion whether it would've been better for Namco to gamble a bit rather than play it safe and in familiar territory. Who knows? I'm rambling. End post! |
So we finally have a fighting game with good online?
Oh dear gracious. |
Everyone with PSN, add me, now.
I gotta say, Im liking Vader. He uses his massive gerth to his advantage. He has all these heavy hitting moves, and his force powers are like projectiles and lightsaber throws and such, Insanely awesome. |
