More on this, as it develops.

So freakin' excited, and I've never even read the "graphic novel"(s?)

I actually watched the trailer twice in a row earlier today. Amazing trailer. Might be ALMOST as good as Dark Knight!

Masked Jedi 08-05-2008 10:46 PM

I seriously think that if Heath Ledger wins an acting Oscar and breaks the ice for superhero movies, that Watchmen could be a serious contender for Best Picture 2009.

I don't think it's possible to be more excited for anything than I am for this movie.

You're missing out. All I can say. I got it for Christmas a few years ago, and it's beyond awesome. If you don't go buy the comic, wiki it. (But that would spoil it and it isn't nearly as powerful as the comic.)

You post info but not the TRAILER!

For shame...
also the comic is FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC if you haven't even seen it then you're not a geek and you have to leave the forum till you do

So...as somebody who's pretty comic-illiterate...this trailer does nothing for me. From what I can understand from reading the interwebs it seems to be doing a pretty good job of making the comic panels move (like Sin City and 300), but I have no earthly idea what the fuck the movie will be about. I'm guessing some sort of psuedo-Justice League decides to fuck up an ungrateful population? Or is the blue guy the only main baddie that totally-not-Batman 'n' Friends have to fight?

Basically, if I've never heard of Watchmen, and don't have any particular intention on going out of my way to become obsessed with it, does this movie have anything to offer me?

Oh wow, you are so far off it's... I can't think of a word for this. No, it's about a group of costumed crimefighters who don't really have any powers trying to stop the world from being destroyed. Mind you that's the watered down version, I won't get into the details because I'm no good at describing something as awesome as Watchmen.

Oh, and blue guy isn't the villian. He works for the government as basically a weapon of mass destruction. That scene in the trailer where he turned a guy into water, that was him doing his job.

Doc ock rokc 08-06-2008 01:27 AM

first off let me explain for all of those non-geek guys and gals out there

the "blue guy" is Dr.Manhattan (named after the Manhattan project) Powers: he has control over the 10 dimensions (AKA everything!) but abides by time's rules for some reason.(he stated that he is just a puppet that can see the strings) only guy with superpowers

the "squiggly mask guy" is Rorschach. Powers:more bad ass then you will ever be makes batman look like deadpool in comparison "sees the world as black and white"

the Chick is Silk Spectre powers:CHICK POWERS also the girlfriend of the omnipotent blue wonder i have stated above

The "bat man knockoff" is Nite owl or owlman (he's called both) "powers:"controls a super advanced Airship (aka the pill looking thing that flies in the trailer)

The guy thats smoking up there is The comedian ...NO POWERS sees life as a big joke aka if joker was a sane good guy

the guy in front of all the televisions is Ozymandias the smartest man in the world
there now i can at least pretend that you guys have read the comic

After seeing the trailer, a friend of mine loaned me a copy of the book, which I read through over the course of the next day.

This is probably the first movie I've ever actually been really looking forward to in my life.

Magus 08-06-2008 01:54 AM

It's also dystopian if that helps describe the tone of the comic in the tiniest way.

Also I think that was one of the best trailers I've seen, I hope I can end up saying the same of the film.
