Russia Attacks Georgia, or Something

The CNN Story
The BBC Story

Huh.

I really don't know what to say.

Is it wrong of me that when I first saw the title, I thought it was something goofy about the US State, Georgia? :sweatdrop

Reading the article, this really is a nasty little situation, isn't it? Genocide and civilian-targeting? Shameful. This is supposed to be the Western world.

Invading a country that didn't attack them? That's aggressive war!

Aggressive war is a war crime! Who do they think they are, The United States of America?

I mean realistically speaking Georgia is screwed and we couldn't do anything about it even if the government wanted to, which if it does it's not for Georgia's sake, but this sort of thing is always wrong.

The current administration wouldn't get involved if you follow logic. They've already taken 20 million metric tons of flak for the wars we're fighting now. And on the business side, which you have to consider, there's nothing to be gained, as far as I can see.

Logic, of course, is merely a tollbooth on the highway of Presidency.

I dunno. I'm waiting for more information before I judge.

CNN just "Updated" the news... to REMOVE a part of it, there were at least 2 mentions of Russians troops praticing "ethnic cleaning" on some villages in Georgia, now those passages are gone and the news report is shortned.

Georgia has borders with Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan. And russia ofcourse. Giving the place and setting of this, i really hate were this is going right now...

I may get some heat for saying this, but I really don't consider Russia to be part of the "Western world."
I mean hell the "Western world" was kind of in a Cold War with them for a long while.

Vladimir Putin is exactly the sort of person who would do this. He's generally considered a throwback to the worst of Soviet Russia but in Russia he's loved because he gets shit done with no nonsense, something that has helped Russia' economy greatly.

On the other hand he probably had Litvinenko (the dude in Russia who was poisoned with polonium from a Russian reactor) poisoned, definitely has many journalists and critics who speak against him murdered, and has his immediate opposition beaten at rallies and arrested, not to mention the guy's supporters, one whom was beaten to death for supporting Limonov and Kasparov (yes, the chess champion.) Kasparov could not run against Putin because in Russia you need to announce your candidacy in a meeting hall with 500+ people, and no one would rent him one for that purpose. A good starting place for more information is the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Other_Russia, however the National Bolshevik Worker's Party is not affiliated with Nazis or their beliefs.

The My Lai massacre would like a word with you.

Russia is typically considered part of the Eastern Bloc of the Western World, actually. They have a more Euro-based culture than Asian- or Arab-based, so they're considered part of it in the same way that, say, Australia and New Zealand are.

to be quite honest the only thing i really really care over this is that i really really dont want this to get any bigger. Because right now it would be REALLY bad

At exactly what point in time would it be convenient to enter a bigger conflict with Russia, or any country for that matter?
