Strong Bad game, any good?
http://www.telltalegames.com/strongbad/
I'm thinking of picking up the PC version, not the Wii-Ware one, and I was wondering if the 1st episode was any good. If you expected more out of this post, clearly you've set your expectations too high. SWB |
Haven't been paying too much attention but reviews I've skimmed have suggested the humour of the series doesn't translate too well to a game format and the gameplay is a point and click adventure but a not particularly good one.

I thought Peasant's Quest was hilarious, and I don't see how this could be any different. Maybe you need to be a fan of the genre to enjoy it.
I'm looking forward to picking it up. |
Peasant's Quest was a text-based adventure game set in an original world with just two mandatory elements: Trogdor and humour.
SBCGFAP... I think that's the acronym... it's a point-and-click game set in the Homestar Runner world that is required to have every Homestar Runner character and at least a handful of in-jokes. Text-based is great because you can do a whole lot that would seem out of place in a normal game; more freedom means more fun. Point and click in this case limit's the player's freedom because all they can try is "Use Fluffypuff Marshmallow on The Stick" to see if they can get a bonfire going. So I'm honestly not all that surprised that it isn't doing too well, but I'm hoping that they'll figure out what they messed up for Episode 2 and fix it. Kinda like Star Wars, but more effective (hopefully). |
I enjoy it. The demo is really quite fun and its awesome cutting off homestarrunner's head with a chainsaw ((OMG SPOILER))

Their Sam and Max Season One and Two adventure games have been nothing less than epically stellar (or stellarly epic, I suppose), so I would assume this is at least a pretty good attempt at a Homestar Runner game. Alas, I've decided to keep my expenditures firmly attached to Sam and Max (which is a shame because Wallace and Gromit: Grand Adventures is another game version of another license I was interested in, though one that has yet to have a video game even associated with it, so I don't know how it'll work out).
Of course if you absolutely despise adventure games then it's probably not for you. I'm not sure how else you could transfer the humor of Homestar Runner into a game and still have it have gameplay other than in adventure game form, though. I don't think an action game would make any sense (unless it starred the Cheat Commandos or something). Although I would expect one or two action-based mini-games based on what they've did with Sam and Max Season 2, which was a welcome additure to the mix. If they don't have any action-based mini-games they're probably missing out on some creative opportunity. |

The game meshes really well together to be completely honest. A lot of dialogue is included to make the episodes really feel like its playing out a real-life sbemail. The scenes are humerus and clever.

Wait wait wait. Back up a second.
Strongbad on Wiiware? |
I just bought the full version and it too kicks ass.
The teen girl squad is hilariously fun! Basically the scene plays and then you can pick various items to use on each of the 4 girls, and you can use two items before the scene ends. You can only use item item once. The goal is to have all 4 teen girl squad girls dead by the end of the three scenes. I've only been able to kill off 3 but I'm confident I can get the fourth via the basketball. |
