D&D 4th Edition: A Test Adventure
It was another one of those long lazy after noons were its just to hot to really do much. Which is why basically anyone in Fellcrest that wouldn't get in trouble, and some that would, had left work early and headed to the Nentir Inn. Unfortunately for you this made the Inn very noisy, hot, and stuffy. Not the best meeting place ever conceived of but it was too late to change now anyway. In a corner you and 4 other friends of a friend sat huddled around a low table finalizing your plans for what was left of the day. Those Kobolds were so going down.

"Ya know, I think I'll buy the first round before we get too deep into strategy and icebreakers." Ariosto excused himself and headed over to the Inn's barkeep. After he placed his order and finished fishing out the coinage he tried to pick out any kobold talk from the masses. The armorer had only been specific in his choice of dwarven epithets.

Though he wouldn't admit it, but he was looking forward to some refreshment. Sitting hear, in his heavy armor, wasn't the most uncomfortable experience he had had - but it was certainly the thing that was bothering him the most right now.
"It would be easier, if we knew where their lair is already," Daravon said, leaning back in his chair, trying to speed this along so they could get out of here. "These Skull Kickers, or whatever their name is, they've been attacking merchants, right? Just what are these buggers like? I've yet to deal with one myself." --- Nature check for Kobold Lore. Ariosto managed to overhear tidbits of conversation about how the Kobolds seemed very on edge as of late. They rarely wandered very far from their base affectionately named Kobold Hall by the locals. He also discovered that Kobold hall was little more than 30 miles to the east along the King's Road. Just inside the northern border of The Cloak Wood. It wouldn't take long at all to get there and with any luck they could be done and back in town in time for happy hour.

"You can't be serious! You're telling me you've never come across a kobold?" Marcó's restless hands drifted to his mouth, where he began to pick at the empty spaces between his teeth. "I suppose you could call them short lizard-men... biggest cowards you've ever seen. Corner one and he'll run ten times out of ten."
Looking across the table, he couldn't quite see what the wizard was up to; but could quite clearly register the drops of sweat refracting tiny rays of light from Daravon's lid under the increasing humidity. "Usually you see Kobolds where dragons are, pretty much consider them gods." "I'm pretty sure there are no dragons in Fallcrest however... at least the last time I checked there weren't. ----- Running a Nature Check for Kobold Info. Modifier is +3. Rolled a 16. Result is 19. Ariosto returned and set down the drinks. He had a slight smile across his lips now that he had an idea of where to go to after this get-together. "So, local gossip has the Kobolds huddled up about 30 miles east of here just inside Cloak Wood. Someplace called Kobold Hall, simply enough. If we hustle we could make this a very profitable day."
|
Orin glanced up at Marcó from the spellbook was studying. "Come, now, it's not that odd. We can't all be animal-skin wearing wildmen like yourself, after all." He flashed the ranger a wide grin to show he wasn't serious, then turned as he heard Ariosto's return.
"Ah, that's excellent news!" he exclaimed, closing the book. "In that case, I say we drink quickly, that we may be on our way as soon as possible." Taking his drink from Ariosto, he proceeded to do just that. |
"I'm pretty sure there are no dragons in Fallcrest however... at least the last time I checked there weren't."
"I suppose there's the dragon hide that Teldorthan wants us to retrieve - but now that hardly counts, now would it? Would be silly, wouldn't it, for them to worship such a thing." When Ari returned with the beverages, Daravon gratefully took a cup. He was more grateful, still, for the information he had retrieved - if Mark was correct in his description, then these kobolds shouldn't pose a danger to them. Unless, of course, there were a lot of them, but there was little they could do about that? "Best be off then, if we know where to go," he said. Following Orin's example, he took a swig from mug, downing it all at once. Setting it down on the table, he stood up, more than anxious to leave this wooden oven. |
"I'm all for that." Ari said, drinking from his tankard, albeit with less vigor than his more buff compatriot. "I wouldn't want to keep Teldorthan waiting lest he decide to enact some of his more colorful expressions out on me."

Sorry, but I no longer have the time to do this. Its probably best that I be removed.
EDIT: Fuck that Gavin reminad silent. He had no interest in joking with his companions. "Lets go deal with the beasts and be done with it." he said, with his usual, emotionless expresion on his face, and in his voice. |
