Star Ocean 3 in general was aggravating. I returned it two days after I bought it, having gotten pretty much nowhere in the plot, because I hated the combat system to a degree that just ruined the game for me.

It was the first game I'd ever returned. I'd never even considered returning games I didn't like before, and I dislike many many games I own.

As for other games? Combat in Disgaea, Disgaea 2, Phantom Brave, and pretty much every other Nippon Ichi game ever. Disgaea and Disgaea 2 were hilarious and well-worth the badly balanced battle system just to see the cutscenes, but Phantom Brave wasn't even FUNNY.

And finally, any racing game, with Diddy Kong racing being the only exception. That's right, fuck you Mario Kart series. I actually LIKE Nascar, and I find their racing games infuriating and stupid.

The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game was frustrating to a degree that still makes people wet their pants.

? It was hard but I can't think how it was particularly frustrating.
The only frustrating bit I found was Shredder who one-hit kills you unexpectedly and you relax for a second after fighting through to him and you die.
I mean they even had a timed stage, which are usually frustrating, but it was easy as when compared to rest of game so it fine.

On that note: Timed games. If it's a race or something sure. If it's like a beat em up or something then no. Maybe one stage can be timed cause there is like a bomb about to go off or something but it shouldn't be a major mechanic, like it was in many arcade games just to find ane xtra way to kill people and get their money. IF you give me ridiculous amounts of time so that it doesn't matter then that's ok but otherwise no.

Tales of Phantasia.
Not being able to see exactly what Archie was dreaming.
Now THAT is frustrating... in a.. odd... sort of way.

You mean Arche. And while I know it actually isn't, I accept what DeJap's translation says.

Watching Tellah's meteo spell fail miserably.

Nice work there Tellah. Nice freaking work.

This weekend I discovered the frustration of playing Super Mario World for the SNES. Not necessarily that it was super hard, but with an old system, this kind of thing was common:

Me: "Yeah! Awesome! I just beat this castle that has taken me a few 30 lives to beat. Just gotta save..."
Friend: *innocently throws an empty waterbottle nowhere near the SNES. The bottle bounces and finds some way to hit the SNES*
*Game Freezes*

Or Legend of Zelda: Four Swords because we had a slightly defective gameboy, so it was REALLY frustrating considering the game resets anytime it stops detecting one of the gameboys.

Actually, now that I think about it. A lot of my most frustrating game moments are the players' fault.

Has anyone ever actually enjoyed level building in a standard RPG? Don't answer that, MMORPG players. It's the most tedious task in the universe, and it's only rewarding in that it allows you to play your own video game that you already paid sixty dollars for. There is no excuse for modern RPGs to force that.
I dunno. I think it's kind of fun sometimes. I really liked it in Final Fantasy 12, but I'm not sure if that counts as a "standard" RPG, considering it's battle system is different. I also like it a lot better if it's a game where you actually have to spend a lot of money buying new equipment instead of just giving you all of the weapons you need, that way you can make money while you level up.

Also, Star Ocean 3 was fine. Even when my friend saved over my 20-hour savestate and I had to do it all again. EXCEPT when I got to the final boss. I'm pretty sure I messed up in levelling somewhere, because I made it to the boxx with one of my characters already dead and no way to bring them back.

.Hack was really frustrating because every single dungeon was the same as the last. Urgh, the only reason I never beat it is because I lost to the final boss the first time and didn't feel like playing that stupid dungeon again.

I get frustrated when I play Halo with my nephew and niece and we have to fool around in the set-up screen for Halo 3 multiplayer for ten minutes because they don't understand how it works exactly and, having never owned an Xbox and being unfamiliar with which gamer tags are theirs and which are randomly generated dummy names, neither do I. I could do some research, but that wouldn't fix them randomly pushing A and B, so why bother?

Oh! Oh oh oh! Speaking of children, I remember playing some baseball game on the NES. To start, you had to chose all the players on your team. I had no manual and no knowledge of baseball, and it was a NES game, so my little child brain could hardly get a team together. Thusly, this step took something like 30 minutes. But, when you started the actual game, 2 times out of 3, it'd crash and you'd lose all that work. That game made me very upset whenever I was dumb enough to put it in the console.

I had that game and I think it was a 'port' from the Atarii.
