Suikoden Tierkis.
Remember those rumours about a new Suikoden being on PSP? Well, there is a new Suikoden, but it's on DS. Here are some scans:

This game's hero is not one of them, and his quest involves reassembling the 108, as opposed to discovering them. |
Sweetness! I have always loved Suikoden... with the exception of the really really boring ship one. And I never played the Tactics type game they had out. But hell, I still have 1 and 2 in damn good condition in storage at home.

Well, I'll definitely be picking this up. Nice spin on the basic concept, though how well it's gonna be done is questionable. Also, talking protagonist is a bit of a turnoff. I liked my mute buddies!
Beyond that... meh. I only ever really liked S2 and 3, but I keep playing them. Playing S1 after playing S2 first ruined the experience, S4 is pretty much universally hated, and S5's lack of anything remotely resembling difficulty (Except the tactical battles, which were admittedly awesome) keeps me away from it. |
I am excited!
I wuv me some Suikoden. |

I absolutely LOVED (and still own) the original. Don't really like the sound of a talking protagonist, although the plot does sound intriguing...But the full 3D thing is kinda lame. The sprites (Which were actually very pleasing to the eye, I thought. And cute with the big eyes, though still detailed.) were just part of the charm. But the battle backgrounds admittedly could use some work, they were horribly flat in Suikoden I. Although, the plot sounds intriguing. Might pick it up if I see it cheap, but there are games I want much more. |

I'll get through Suikoden 1 eventually, but I just set the game down after getting the base because I just couldn't bring myself to care. I think it was the lack of Flik up till that point, and I wasn't willing to wait another however-many-hours just to use him when I had a perfectly usable Flik on my S2 files. Anyway, concerning the new game... Any info on either A) a release date, or B) when/where this game falls in the timeline and setting? I want more things going on in Harmonia and the Grasslands, and the Fire Bringer War is almost close enough to being ideal for the set-up of "the 108 were beaten, let's get them back together!" Almost. EDIT: Okay, 50% done probably means no release date set yet. I ned 2 lern 2 readz. |
I did love the first three so I'm pretty excited for this one. Too bad it isn't the PSP release with Suikoden II that I think Japan got but, new game = good.
I'm gonna ignore the fourth game, and along those lines; Tactics, but I do wanna pick up the fifth game. I heard it picks up quite a bit in the middle after trudging through a boring beginning. |

Suikoden 5 is awesome. The only thing wrong with it? It doesn't have as much a difficulty curve as a difficulty meadow. Final boss? Puh-Lease. While I do think America got gipped on the whole no Suikoden 1+2 thing, I must say on some level I am glad that it wasn't released. I mean, it would have made me get a PSP instead of a DS. Come to think of it, the PSP has all these great games, and none of them came to American shores for some reason. Breath of Fire 3... Suikoden 1+2... maybe thats why the DS is so much better? |
Suikoden 2 is one of my favorite RPGs ever.
Suikoden 3 also kicks ass. The original Suikoden is also phenomenal though I can sort of understand why playing the second game first might ruin the experience. But Suikoden 2 is really a direct sequel to the original, so you really have to play the original first to experience the true story in its most meaningful form. But I mean seriously, if you love Flik and Viktor, there's no real reasonable way you can dislike one of those two games and love the other. EDIT: Also, I'm about 95% sure that the original Suikoden's main character is gay, though that's actually a plot "twist" I thoroughly appreciate. (One of my more homophobic gamer friends IRL agreed he was gay but did not agree with my appreciation.) Of course the same people who think McDohl from Suiko1 is gay tend to also argue that the main character in Suikoden 2 is gay, but I strongly disagree with the latter assertation, so who the hell knows. I also own and enjoy Suikoden 5, but that's largely because I'm such a huge fan of every Suikoden 2 character, including Georg. I haven't picked up Suikoden 4 and given the fact that it's not really a sequel to 3 or a prequel to 5 or related in any way shape or form to the other games (except Suikoden Tactics, I hear, but I don't own that either) I'll probably never pick it up...unless someone makes a compelling enough reason for me to. |

And Tactics was alright, just not anything special. |
