The document listed Fullmetal Alchemist animator Yasuhiro Irie as "Hagane 2 kantoku" (Iron/Fullmetal 2 director).

After the purported leak, BONES President Masahiko Minami posted an official statement that said that no file with this same formatted information existed within the company. When asked about the possibility of a sequel to Fullmetal Alchemist or Darker than BLACK (another BONES anime), Minami told ANN, "It hasn't been decided yet. We are interested in doing them. As original science-fiction works, they were extremely fascinating. With these kinds of dramatic story lines, I feel that there's a lot we could do potentially."

Viz Media will publish the 17th volume of the manga version in North America this October, while FUNimation Entertainment released both the first television series and its theatrical movie finale.

I'm glad Bones is deciding to do something good after the suckitude that is Soul Eater. Speculation says this will probably veer off from where the original series started to diverge from the manga and follow its truthful path. A hopeful wish, seeing the manga story arcs that came after the anime was released were incredible.

I mean, how many manga have Chinese ninja?

The post split manga incredible for a while, what with Gluttony's stomach and all that fantastic shit. But it nearly lost my interest when it decided to drag on in the north forever.

I would still like an animated adaptation of the manga, but at the same time a continuation of the already established anime could be interesting, albeit riskier.

There's nothing left to continue with the established anime after the movie. Ed and Al are in the real world pre-WWII where alchemy doesn't exist, the homonculi are are all destroyed, Mustang is fuhrer, and there's just really no place left to go without some how plot devicing Ed and Al back through the gate and introducing new villains, OR introducing a new plucky/pair of pluck protagonists that really has no chance of being anything but terrible. Or they could make it into a WWII anime, but that would completely diverge from the roots of the series and ALSO be terrible, purely for its connection to FMA.

The only non-terrible possibility is pulling a Hellsing Ultimate, which is to say a retelling that is far closer to the manga.

Hah hah that statement is so amusing. And wrong.

Envy's true form is so much cooler in the manga and, ok I know this will be hard to believe if you haven't read the manga. But Greed is actually cooler, plus The Truth is the best example of a faceless nameless dick

Always remember kids, any one can learn to do advance alchemy. It just costs an arm and a leg

I assume this is what theyd do. There is no possible way of continuing without changing the gnere really. Oh man, if they made it a gag anime... ugh.

I think that terrible pun just broke my mind.

Personally, a retelling of FMA closer to the manga would be awesome, plus it might get me to actually read the manga.

Could always do as Hellsing did, and just start from the begining again, this time following the original comics more faithfully.

.... And you already said that. Fuck, I really need to finish reading entire posts.

The prospect of another Fullmetal Alchemist anime, however, isn't something that really appeals to me. The instant that I finished watching the movie, I pretty much all interest I had in the series. It was a revelation, an epiphany if you would, that maybe it really wasn't all that good in the first place. Though, that may be Bones' fault, because, really, they kinda suck in the whole making entertainment thing. Which is a shame, looking at where they came from, and some having helped make probably the best anime, Cowboy Bebop.

I prefer to just pretend the movie doesn't exist, as everything else is good. The movie is pretty terrible.

But then everything was already fully wrapped up at the end of the series and then they artificially jammed shit onto the end, which felt like shit artificially jammed onto the end to make money... which is never good.

Which makes me rather wary of this, as they've already done it once. There's nothing stopping them from artificially shoving more shit onto the end of a beyond completed story to get more money.
