Too Human
HOLY MOLEY are the cutscenes shoddy. I am reminded of Don Hertzfeldt all over again.
Other than that, the game's pretty fun. Using the thumbstick to set up for melee combos and such takes a bit of getting used to, and god I'm having a hell of a time killing bosses with special patterns. But it's a blast. The Diablo On Console statement I've been hearing getting kicked around is dead on - Hordes of monsters, you, a couple of ranged weapons and your melee badassery. Even has completely identical talent trees. Shame there's no pet class. |
I heard the voice acting is very good, as it was with Eternal Darkness. I've been looking forward to this game for a while, but I've been hearing a lot of reviews saying it sucked.
|
The voice acting is good, it's just that they can't get the mouth synced up with the voice to save their lives.
|
I think that how long this is in development probably hurt it quite a bit, and that the second and third installments will be much better, if they still get made.
|
I hate how that's like 90% of the good games out right now.
"They ran out of time. The next one will be way better!" |
This is an entirely un-informed rant.
Developers: "Hay guyz you'll keep buying our shit in the hope that it'll get good, right?"
Gamers: "I don't want to... but.." Gamers with money burning holes in their wallet: "Fuck yes, why the fuck not?! Let's do this!" Gamers: "...all right, I guess.." Developers: "Excellent, we can keep churning out garbage for money and fix it up later! Maybe." I don't know. Maybe it's not that bad. Though it is really, really irritating that EVERY DAMNED GAME is a SERIES of games now. Holy fuck, learn to wrap that shit up correctly and get a new idea for future profits. |
It doesn't bug me that bad. Sequels both are near-guaranteed good games (provided the original was good) and near-guaranteed money for the developer.
Besides, whenever we get ingenuity in the form of brand new games, it gets turned into Sequel-A-Thon! (Katamari Damacy, for example) so we really can't have our cake and eat it too. |

I didn't care for Too Human at first, but a few days ago I tried the demo again and for some reason this time it was a lot more fun. I have no idea why. I think "Really fun game that's rough around the edges" seems to be the internet wide consensus and based on the demo I agree with them. |

So basically it's guaranteed money for the developer and sometimes they come out better than the first time. EDIT: So I've been playing more. God the cutscenes give me a headache. Not because they're bad or anything, but because the camera jolts around like crazy and it's painful to look at. That and the bad facial animations. But the mythology stealing from the Norse and old fables (Goblins and 'Grendel' fighting) meshing it into sci-fi/fantasy sort of hybrid is bitchin' sweet, and the absolute plethora of Diablo-style equipment you can buy customize and tamper with is awesome. Liking it lots more as I get deeper into it. EDIT DEUX: Okay, now I'm liking it less. I figure that the Berserker class would be an absolute blast, right? Dual wield, high attack speed, more kills = more badass, right? Well that'd be totally true if it didn't have everything attacking in waves that requires you fight tons of useless minions while the bombardment of missiles from the back is safely protected by a guy I literally cannot hurt because he's covered in an entire health bar of shields. It's like, I have to die two or three times every encounter I go into. EDIT THE THIRD: Sigh, come to find out that's exactly what every class has to do. After being beaten to death by shielded enemies over and over again, or being gangraped by ranged attacks, I am thoroughly done with this game. It is agonizingly frustrating at times. You literally have to play the bio-engineer to be able to even stay alive in the game. I suppose some people can go beyond how frustrating it is, but I simply can't. I'm going back to turn this game in for something more playable. I mean it isn't even Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden frustrating, it's "God damn it why are there no healing items in this game", because I literally cannot start an encounter without getting reduced to red HP, and the only way to heal is to get the pop-out healing items. What a disappointment. |
You know the only penalty for dying is some damaged armor, right? And you know how to juggle and that you're invulnerable during a roll, right?
I mean it's not that hard. Edit: And no one I've seen plays a Bioengineer so that's just downright untruth, Mirai. |
