New Fantasy Games

Now, we all know how awesome the RPG's available for the SNES and PS1 were. I mean, you can't get much better than Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest, the Final Fantasy series, Vagrant story. These days, we've got a few fantasy games rolling around. This here's a thread for people to tell of their favorites (or not so favorites) and give reviews. Stars, numbers, use whatever rating system you want, but tell us a bit about why you liked or hated the game:

Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance

This was one of the first dungeon crawlers that I got with my PS2. Simple game, but incredibly fun. Basic hack 'n slash format with a warrior, mage and a dwarf. Simple, but fun.

Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance II

Pretty much a continuation of BG:DA, but this time you get to play as a few different classes, including a cleric! Fun stuff.

Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes

Ehhh... not my favorite. Good premise, but I real time strategy games aren't my thing. That and the game doesn't seem to have a tutorial. You play as one of any different heroes on either side of a war.

Demon Stone

Not too bad. You're in a party on three heroes, a Drow Assassin, a Human Mage and a Human Warrior, each called to a town. As the warrior, you discover that the town is being fought over by ogres and orcs, it's citizens trapped in cages. It's also being roasted by a giant dragon. You free the Drow from her cage, and both of you press on. After being pinned down by archer fire, the Mage steps in to save you. Escaping the dragon inside a cave, you end up freeing ancient evil that will destroy all humanity.

I'd review Oblivion, Golden Sun or any of the others but I either don't know enough or you know them all already.

Final Fantasy 8. [spoilers] I mean, if I've said it once, I've said it a million times. I love this game. One of the things I like most is that the love story supersedes the "Save The World" quest. Squall ain't fighting for the world, he's fighting for Rinoa. I mean, he freaking jumped out into space just to save her. He traveled far to a potentially hostile and dangerous country to save her. He went through the space/time continuum to make sure she had a future. But most of all, he would protect her, even if she became evil. That, and he changed from self-pitying dumbass mercenary, to selfless and capable leader. This is why I love this game.[/spoilers]

But I don't care if anybody else doesn't like it. It's their choice, sure, but it's my right to enjoy it. I say this because of all the criticism it gets, so I kinda expect it from someone.

Betrayel of Antarra(sp?)

This was an incredible game back during the old windows 95 and i8 days. Great story, the graphics weren't too bad. Very decent gameplay...

Baldurs Gate : Dark Alliance 2

Great game, I had ALOT of fun playing this game. Despite what some people said during it's launch, it was still great. The fact that it was multi platform was good too.

Faery Tale Adventure

An OLD game, but still very fun none the less.

Heavenly Sword

This is after the huge hype built around the title. It is primarily God Of War for girls, but it has its own unique storyline, voice actors, actors (The guy who does Gollum is Bohan) and a neat new fighting system. It's awesome.

Can I rip someones arm off, strangle them with it, disembowel them, and then beat someone else to death with the corpse?

Don't you mean "with" girls?

Tales Of Symphonia

Great, great, great stuff...I'd say best Tales game ever (I haven't played the new one yet though)...and so good they're making a sequel...go out and buy the first one and you might finish it by the time the sequel comes out!

Also as I have said and will always say: Final Fantasy 9 > Final Fantasy 7, 8, 10
