Go Go Russian Music!

Is it Russian?

I... don't know. It's interesting. But it's... kinda confusing. Like a music video prominently featuring alternative dance. And what's with the creepy guy on the accordion?

...They're actually Swiss. Or Swedish. They're on the same label as Royksopp, and I think they're...Swiss? I'm not really sure, and hopefully I'm not inciting some neutral fire for mixing up the two.

On the subject of actual Russian music...well, I know of a few bands who admit to having Eastern-European influences, but they're all based in America so I guess it doesn't really count?

Red Army Orchestra or GTFO.

Wasn't the theme for the first season of the Ghost in the Shell TV show russian?

But seriously, this thread needs more Dmitri Shostakovich and it needs it now.

Pfft, Aleksandr Borodin was much better. Prince Igor is awesome.

OMG FLAMES REPORT TIEM

That being said, and I know that this will probably get me laughed out of NPF, but... I kinda like TATU. I feel bad because here everyone's listing off classical or at least reputable Russian artists/works, and I'm directing the conversation into pop. God save us all.

Some of their stuff is crap, but some of it isn't bad.

Professor Smarmiarty 09-02-2008 09:53 PM

Well I think the main reason we're listing classical is cause you don't really hear Russian pop because pop music tends to be quite localised and presumably in Russian.
Whereas classical music is without language and more universal.
