I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker

With Flowers In My Hair - Sandi Thom

That's my obscure music for the day. (Listen to The Go! Team, too!) What's yours?

Professor Smarmiarty 09-08-2008 02:39 AM

Obscure? I wish it was, in NZ anyway. Back when I used to be a mail sorter this song was played all over the radio ALL THE FRIGGEN TIME and it nearly made me go postal. Well that and ink fumes.
Curse you for reminding me of my terrible past!

Seil 09-08-2008 02:41 AM

I've never heard it afore.

Professor Smarmiarty 09-08-2008 03:25 AM

I didn't mean anything by it. It may be obscure but to me it is drilled through my very soul with huge nails.
I don't have any suggestions however because when it comes to music I'm a total corporate whore.

Remember, just because you haven't heard it, doesn't mean the whole world hasn't. I mean, I haven't heard anything from Timberland, but that don't make them obscure.

Might just not have made it to the US, it was pretty big here in Oz too. Personally while it was overplayed it at least became background noise easily.

Ontopic, other than OCRemix and the like, I don't really know much obscure music. I mean the foreign stuff I mostly got from anime probably isn't obscure in it's land of origin. And we already enough threads for VGmusic. I do like some niche genres, but what I like tends to be fairly well known for what it is. Does say Voltaire or Sonata Arctica count? They're well known in the right circles, but the general populace would probably draw a blank.

Edit: Machinae Surpremacy definitely counts, and they rock as I've said before.

Lumenskir 09-08-2008 07:43 AM

Man, when I read the title I thought it was going to actually be about punk rock and and its many more listenable offshoots, but I click on the link and it's just another act in the line of twee-girl singer-songwriters that seems to have simultaneously infected every country at once (except Guam?) + an invitation to start another go nowhere 'discussion' about what music qualifies as unknown.

Darn.

Meister 09-08-2008 08:03 AM

We are not making another OCRemix thread.

Nothing's really obscure if you ask the right crowd. Ask a hundred people on the street about Paul Roland and you'll probably get a hundred blank stares, ask a hundred people in a goth club about Paul Roland and the result will likely be different. (Ask a hundred people at the Annual Fans Of Paul Roland Convention about Paul Roland and you'll take proving a point too far as well as come across as a huge idiot.)

... Paul Roland's just the first semi-obscure name that popped in my head, by the way, but going by what's on youtube he's actually pretty good.

EDIT: Okay, Lumenskir's totally right so we're not making one of those threads either. Instead I suggest we simply introduce each other to music we wouldn't otherwise have found. OR ELSE. Consider Roland my pick of the day.

Considering it was number 7 on the UK top song charts, I doubt it's obscure to a lot of people, but it sure was obscure to me, so maybe it would be obscure to some people on here. I like the song anyway, so... here you go: FAITHLESS - Mass Destruction

And I'm pretty sure this is relatively obscure everywhere, but epic in so many ways: Vader did you Know?
