They don't really. And I have no clue where you think the mods have posted in this forum. If I had to make a rough guess, I would say they posted a grand total of 30 or fewer times amongst all of them.
I think it's because a Roleplaying Forum is vastly different from the normal rules of a forum. Yes, there are the usualy No Spam, No Flame, etc rules, but it also relies in part on the GM's opinion. Each time a thread is started, it is GMed by an individual, because a person has to start the RP everyone is interested in. The GM is olmost like a micro-mod over his or her one little thread. They decide who joins the RP and who doesn't, and they have the right to tell people they don't want them in an RP, or the right to say that a character they made is wrong and needs to be changed. They can't ban people or delete others posts or lock threads, but they are the person you need to go to if you want to join an RP. Think of your first post in a thread as your request to join an RP. The GM can approve or deny it, and the GM has final call because they started the RP, not the people joining. If the GM doesn't like waht your doing, he'll tell you, and if you don't stop, they will just kill your character off and your out of the RP, end of story.
Also, the RP thread isn't like the others. You don't come here to cruise and randomly post spam, or offer a random opinion on something, you come here to RP. Anyone with no intention of RPing here just doesn't visit normally. Thus, I guess maybe the mods see it as, the RPers have basically been modding themselves, and since 90% of the forum population doesn't RP anyway, it doesn't matter as much what the RPers do since the others won't see it. The RP Forum isn't public ground, its more like a parking lot far away from the stadium where a bunch of Magic nerds are playing a card game before joining the others if they want to. The RP Forum has it's own rules at the top, it's own way of functioning, and even it's own etiquette. It is a much smaller environment, so all the people that do RP here generally become friends, or at least learn a bit about each other, and see no problem with someone they know spamming a joke or comment.
So it all boils down to the fact that the Mods don't moderate here, because if they don't RP, they may not know what is and isn't acceptable in an RP format. A 100 post limit is all well and good, but what if you are in the middle of an action at 100 posts. It would be extremely awkward to start the new thread just like you left the old one, so instead you can finish your actions in the one, going over the 100 post limit, and when you get a new thread, you usually are at a good point for a transition. Also, what could be flaming on the main forum, could just be friendly joking here, or even a bit of constructive criticism if you think about it properly.
The RP Forum is a jungle, and short of an RPer, it can be hard for an "Outsider" to understand how everything runs around here, and since there aren't any major problems here and we moderate ourselves and keep the order by group consensus, the mods feel no reason to jump in and start mucking about I guess.
That's my view of the situation anyway.
EDIT: And besides, if a Mod is really needed for something, someone can go and tell them about the problem here and they'll fix it.
