Prepare for Payne...
Alright, I'm seeing the trailers now. Mark Wahlberg really has the look of Max Payne from 2 pretty well. Though I do find it a little jarring to see him in such a noir role, I have to say, this does look at least decent to watch.
I'm aware that Tomb Raider went on to be made into three movies. I really can't see Payne eclipsing that. Maybe Dick Tracy type stories but this one should be a pretty dark one... Trailer music isn't bad though... http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=JboQmDIdKWs |
Wahlberg MIGHT be a fit but Mila Kunis is no Mona Sax by a long shot, and all their other casting decisions seem to come into doubt as well...Ludacris as Bravura? Please.
I'll see it when it comes out but overall I think it's going to end up as bad or worse than all the other video game movies they've made. When will the first good video game movie be made? Will it be in our lifetimes? They said we'd go to Mars in my lifetime, and at this point I can probably say it's a damn dirty lie. Sure, I've got probably a good 50-60 years left to go, but my parents were told we'd all be living on moon colonies and have life-life animatronic robot slaves. When important stuff like that doesn't get done, what hope is there for a good video game movie? |
What Magus said.
Their casting roles seemed like they had a big pool of names and who they were in the games. But the only one they paid attention to was Max himself, which is why they cast Mark Whalberg. Mila Kunis looks kinda like Mona Sax, but she kind of loses that casually flirty-but-deadly sort of air about her. That and gripping the gun by the clip and all. After that they just started casting people to attract more attention. Ooh, Ludacris is a popular rapper and actor, kinda! Let's cast him, we can get the rap demographic that way! Everything else in the trailers seems to be heading the right direction - trippie Valkyries related to the Valkyr drug, lots of bullet time and gratuidous leaping-forward shooting action, Max going nuts, etc etc etc - but this is the easiest plot in the world to fuck up. I'll see it out of affection for Max Payne and video game movies, as well as the vein hope that we will one day actually have a decent one. |
Ludacris hasn't really disappointed me on the occasions I've had to see him act.

Fast and Furious 2?
But still, I have to agree to some of the casting. They have Akon in there as no name who knows everything #1. But other than that: Quote:

Was that in the fabulous "Hustle & Flow" or are we going the whole way back to the celebrated "2 Fast 2 Furious"?
Personally, I've been waiting for "Lil' Pimp" to finally come out, like, forever. |

Also I think they're a little late on Max Payne...he hasn't been cool since...well the first game since the second one kind of sucked and they haven't bothered making a 3rd (so far) Oh and first good video game movie...Super Mario Brothers. "He's Mario Mario and I'm Luigi Mario" yeah that's an actual line and I am so very very very kidding about that movie being good Oh...what a classic |
I think they're currently making the third Tomb Raider one as we speak. I don't know why really, I mean, I guess they do okay at the box office or something but I don't actually think they're GOOD. And as far as that goes, the second wasn't even as good as the first so I don't have high hopes for the third.
Man, you don't like Max Payne 2? I mean, you think it can't get any worse for him...and then it does! What could be better? But yeah, I hope they make the third one sometime, doesn't seem to be happening. You know Super Mario Brothers actually is an okay movie. It has pretty much nothing to do with the actual Mario universe but if you throw enough actors and money at something you get something at least halfway decent like that movie. I mean, compare it to your average '80s movie like Bill and Ted, the shit we all watched. It's actually pretty much on the same level and as a kid we probably all enjoyed that. It's not Double Dragon, is what I'm saying. Now that's a turd. |
Alternate Thread Title: Punchinello Wanted Payne? He'd See the Pain.

Double Dragon wouldn't be so bad if they made another one, only more post-apocalyptic gang violence while being beaten to shit by twin kung-fu masters and less shitty acting. |
