Team Fortress 2 is still a really good game
So I finally picked up a copy because my PC video card was begging me for some constructive use.
Impressions so far; HO-LEE-SHIT is the Spy tough to use. Like, god damn son, you gotta be good. I like it that way but it certainly isn't my cup of tea. Pyro is wonderful and I rock with it. I'm working quickly to unlock the Backburner because it is kickass incarnate. I also love being the Medic, not just because healing a Heavy is awesome but because I can chop bitches up with the Saw. I am pro with that thing. I'm awful with the Engineer, so I usually go to instant-respawn maps and try to build shit repeatedly to figure out what I'm doing. Demoman is sweet but god damn those stickybombs are annoying. Is there any way to trigger them from afar? Shooting them or someshit? Love the entire art style, but of course I always have since The Incredibles is one of my favorite movies and I love the "Meet The" videos. Favorite moment so far: Running in as a Medic with a Pyro, Ubering him, and completely destroying their defensive strategy consisting of three Dispensors and an Engineer, a Medic, and a Heavy. And, because a Scout didn't get killed by the fire, I whacked him with my Saw once. I'm on Steam as Mirai Gen or I'm Batman, I'm not sure which one is used for the purposes of looking me up. |
Stickies are triggered with the right mouse button.
Spy is really gratifying if you learn how to play him. I mean gratifying like a team's worth of stupid fuckers falling dead at your feet because they weren't paying attention. I find the Heavy/Medic combo is one of the most rewarding roles to play in the game especially for the way it requires both parties to know what they are doing; as a Heavy you have a real responsibility not to overextend yourself and to account for your medic being able to keep behind cover or otherwise minimize his exposure to opposing fire. I find one of the things I actually most enjoy is switching up roles over the course of a match in response to the team's current strategic situation. |
Naw I want to trigger the other guy's stickies. The alternative is wait for the Heavy to lumber through the train tunnel with the cart and once his severed body parts hit the ground okay, then it's safe to go through.
As for the Medic/Heavy oh yes, that's one thing that always cracks me up about being a Sniper. You don't even have to get a headshot if the Heavy is dumb as hell, just wait until he takes a few hits thinking that the medic's healygun makes him SUPA UNKILLAVINCIBLE and plug a few rounds into his chest before he can run away. When I first read the Penny Arcade talking about how they wanted you to "shoot the doctor, this motherfucker right here" it sounded like the most basic, unstoppable combo in the game but it's actually really balanced. I'm getting better at the Spy. But I also suck at the Engineer, and if I can't play an Engineer nobody on the other team gets to either. |
The spy is more about luck with the rampant spy-checking and paranoia.
Engies are very fun to play. Some tips, learn to aim with your shotgun and make very shot count, If you are on the front lines place a level one sentry somewhere unexpected and cover it with your shotgun. You will get a few surprise kills. |

Also gang up with another engie and push some enemies into your waiting sentries also note that spys are best on BIG MAPS with little to almost no choke points but snipers will be your main target on those maps so pyros will stick close to them or points for easy kills Snipers are alot more effective when they do the "Snipe-in-a-box" move...To do this find something that you are completely hidden behind when you crouch and use it as cover while you charge you shots then pop up fire at the target that will cause you the most problems and pop back down and if other snipers are around move to the left or right some random distance WARNING: this attracts spies like no other Sentries are alot better in corners of semi-long hallways then anywhere else make shure that they must round a corner to get to the sentry and that you can push them into the sentry if the need arises you could even block one entrance with a dispenser so you know when to run back also guys a found this that allows you to make this http://www.mzzt.net/tf2/?lum=light&w...%29&color2=red |
Unlocking the Heavy achievements over the last week or so has been great fun. I think they are the best achievements so far because they don't rely on other people as much (like the Medic) and they're not as much of a grindathon (like the Pyro). Well perhaps that was because I liked playing Heavy a lot more than Pyro so it didn't seem like a grind. The Sandvich is my favorite unlockable ever, really useful for the Heavy.

http://www.mzzt.net/tf2/?lum=dark&we...tt&color2=blue My favorite recent moment was an Arena match, where it got down to just me as Scout, and an enemy Heavy at full health...with the new Scout-killing Natascha gun, no less. I killed him, and won the match. He was not happy. |

But for spy, I think its best to select your targets carefully. Find the camping pyro or sniper, and stab them. Focus on lone targets because the instant you backstab someone, every compitant team member around you will swarm. Engineer, well incase you haven't already heard, not only does the wrench upgrade and repair, but hitting structures with the wrench also speeds up the build. But please remember, engineers, and only engineers can do this. Dont go soldier and hit a sentry with a shovel. Sticky bombs will be knocked away by shots, and explosions like rockets or other stickies work well too. If you are pyro, just use the alt fire for your main weapon |
The name we search for is whatever you log in as, Mirai.
Like, when it asks for your username and password. That's it. Mine's Grthwllms for anyone interested, and I play Spy quite a bit. Seconding what Guyy said, you'll almost never find someone dumb enough to not give you a smack with his melee weapon for good measure while everyone's sitting around waiting for something to happen, and one of the key things to understand for a new spy is that, put simply. There is no reason, EVER. For an enemy not to spy check you. Oh, and you can't walk through enemies, so running into people and getting stuck is a major hint. |

If anyone wants to know what I'm talking about, I will either show you professional sniping videos, or, if you want less of a "Oh those are just Cevo P Allstars" Feel then I will make a demo myself and throw it on filefront for you folks to download and watch. (You watch demos by putting them in your tf folder and typing "demoui" into the console.) |
