Damn, Bethesda Knows How To Make An Involving Game

So I just bought Oblivion after trying it at a friends house. I have to ask - does anyone else play? If so, how? Custom classes? Interesting stories? The only beef I've got is that I canna find the Thieves Guild.

The only beef I have with it is the game is horrible.

Also bribe a begger until he likes you enough to tell you where to meet a thieves guild contact.

Melfice 09-11-2008 11:57 PM

The Thieves' Guild doesn't exist.
It's just a silly myth made up by the commoners and beggers.

I play and I don't use the autotravel feature, so I spend a lot of time spelunking. Sometimes I almost feel like keeping a journal of the crazy stuff that happens in the game. It's hella-involving.

DFM 09-11-2008 11:58 PM

The Grey Fox? He's that wanted criminal the guard is always going on about.

Also I thought you had to be contacted by that one high-elf to join... um.... her for a drink later... yeah... A drink at the waterfront after dark.

The game would be good...If the combat wasn't so bad. Seriously. And enemies that level when you do are also terrible. Also, when you hit something from far away, it knows exactly where you are. And that's terrible. I'm okay with the enemies noticing where you are if you're in plain sight but if you're behind a rock and just hit an enemy from behind with an arrow, they shouldn't be able to pinpoint exactly where you are. It's irritating.

I like the game...

Also yeah make butt buddies with a begger.

I've been playing Oblivion for years now and I still find new things all the time.

Normally I play a melee-heavy character with lots of useful touch magic for offensive purposes.

And in reference to arrows and magic, since the magic spells leave sparkling trails and arrows tend to hit in the direction they were fired from, I'd probably be able to deduce the location of an attacker myself.

Here are some must dos:

1. Compete in the Arena. Do the Grey Prince's quest
2. Become a vampire, if only briefly. Look out for sun damage
3. Dark Brotherhood has insanely awesome quest rewards.
4. Do quests for the Daedric lord Peryite when you are able to. You get a shield with an enchantment of reflect spell 30%. Also do the one for Nocturnal to get an unbreakable lockpick and the one for Azura to get the reusable soul gem.
5. Join Mage's Guild and complete the preliminary quests to gain entry to the arcane university. Once inside make a spell of touch drain health 100 points for 1 second. Its cheap, powerful, and often an instant-kill or very useful kill spell
6. Consider for a second that the elder scrolls are enchanted to make the people who read them blind. I seriously think they were just a practical joke.
7. Find the necrophiliac Dark Elf in Skingrad. She's fun to talk to.
8. Pop in god mode, make a 100 yard 100 damage over 20 second spell, and start unleashing terror in the cities as you kill EVERYBODY (note, your computer will slow... BADLY if you cast that spell)
9. Find a copy of The Lusty Argonian Maid. Its a nice book
10. If you need a boob fix, eshmes's bodies is the best nude patch out there.
11. Actually read some of the books you find lying around. I can't remember which one it was, but basically one book is a code written by the dremora. Its fascinating the learn about Dremora culture.
12. Do the daedric quest for Sanguine. Its... FUN. So is Sheogorrath's
13. If you like what you see here, get Shivering Isles.

Also:
Xiz'rra
Argonian "Redtail"

Blade
Block
Destruction
Heavy Armor
Marksmanship
Athletics
Mysticism

I focus heavily on the usage of magical items to achieve my goals. I enchant a number of rings and switch my rings to match whatever my current task is.

MFD 09-12-2008 12:38 PM

There is no Thief's Guild. Everybody knows that.

Anyways:

Custom Class: Dark Knight/Paladin
Combat: Strength/Willpower

Blade
Block
Heavy Armor
Athletics
Speechcraft
Conjuration
Restoration

To play as the Dark Knight, you focus on using Conjuration spells like the Absorb spell effects, and the Bound Sword. And I guess some of the Summons.

As a Paladin, you focus more on Restoration, but also use Bound Sword and Turn Undead.

Aside from the magic, you mostly use your sword to kill things, like a good Paladin should.

Roleplay to your heart's content! Be a DK through to the end of Oblivion and turn to the light for Knights of the Nine!
