Rival Schools RP: Signup

The Story
Somewhere in Japan there is a city with a whopping three high schools. The first, called Gorin High, thrived on its athletic program, educating some of the finest athletes in the country. The second, named Pacific High, a private school that boasts higher standardized test scores that have been unrivaled for some time. The third and final school, named Taiyo High, doesn't boast anything too out-of-the ordinary as far as high schools go, but the students there have school spirit and figghting prowess that the others can't come close to.

These three rival schools have had several conflicts, resulting in property damage, gang fights, and much worse. However, now the Superintendant of the district plans to either combine the three schools or shuffle up the student roster of all three in hopes to cease the conflict at hand.

However, getting that to happen might be a little harder than the Superintendant might think, as other forces are at work here...

The Premise
Lame beginning story aside (sorry about that, folks), we got three schools you can sign your RP character up for, whether he/she be a student or faculty member. Let's try to keep the groups even, though (about three or four RPers to each school). Since this is an RP (by Mr. V, no less) classes probably won't be held during the RP (unless you like roleplaying Chemistry class, of course :D).

The Schools
Here are the three schools you may attend, which determines your affilation and possible specialties.

-=Gorin High=-
Description: The most athletic school.
Uniform: None, although most students wear their athletic jerseys/equipment to school.
Character "Classes:" if you want to RP an athlete, this'll be your school. You can be a soccer goalie, baseball pitcher, you name it.
Other notes: None.

-=Pacific High=-
Description: Smartest school. ALso has the wealthiest students, as well as the most foreign exchange students.
Uniform:
Character "Classes:" Pretty much anything will work here. Most students here study band or take other clubs, in case you need some ideas.
Other notes: Largest foreign exchange student enrollment at 80% of student body. Chances are, if you want to be a foreign exchange student, you'll go here.

-=Taiyo High=-
Description: Most spirited school.
Uniform: all students wear a quarter-sized badge bearing the schools insignia. Otherwise, they can wear whatever they want.
Character "Classes:" Anything'll work here.
Other notes: School policy dictates that students at Taiyo can't have part-time jobs during the school year.

Other Stuff
'Class' Recommendations: pretty much anything goes as far as it'll work in a high school setting. For example, a journalism would be able to write up stories about (imminent) brawls, blind people with a camera flash, uh...and chuck newspapers at assailants. Another example: a woodshop student would have...uh...+5 to 2x4 combat? This is pretty much left up to you RPers, but be sure to ask for my approval if you're not sure it'll be allowed.

About teachers/faculty: take note that while students might cruise around picking fights, faculty members probably won't have the same liberty. They can, however, use and abuse their power...

If you have any questions/comments/suggestions, feel free to post here or PM me.

-Y'know who wants to join this RP?
-This guy *points thumbs at self*

Name: Ben Lauer
Gender: Male (happy, everyone?)
Age: 18
*Blood Type: O
Appearance: An overall attractive specemin, Ben's 6'3", and a lean, muscled 193 lbs.
Grade (if applicable): 12
Character Class (Club/Sport/whatever): Fighter/adept(auto mechanics)
*Likes: Girls, sciences, nice folks, fun fighting, street racing

Personality: A charming and affable guy who doesn't like making enemies. He's very protective of his family and close friends, and is fearless if either of those are threatened.
Back Story: Ben's dad is a former Marine officer from the good ole USA. He has a tolerant and agreeable personage due to years of forced adaptation to new homes, schools, and friends through 16 years of his life. For 9 of those years, he studied Tae Kwon Do and Shorin Ryu Karate in the US in various schools and is a very skilled fighter whose speed belies his size. He took up working on cars as a kid as he spent time with the marines on the various bases his family was stationed at, learning from the motor pool mechanics for a good 10 years. Presently, his father has retired from the corps, and is the CEO of a security consulting firm based in (insert City here). He's a strictly science and engineering guy, and scores high on the discrete and abstract reasoning tests, FYI. Upon entering Pacific High, he was fast friends with the slightly zany, but agreeable Henry Fellowes. He's well liked among the student body as a generally friendly and cool guy, but doesn't subscribe to the elitist philosophy of High School popularity, hanging out with whoever he feels like at the time.
School: Pacific High

Extra*- He drives a personally souped-up Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII

Name: Lee Kasura
Gender: Male
Grade: 12th
Apperance See attached Image...
Blood type: AB-
Class: Track 100 meter dash and boxing...
Likes: His car.Its a Skyline. Arcades. Mastering his 4 martial arts techniques...
Dislikes: Most of the popular students, The other schools popular students, cheaters
School Gorin
Best classes: Honor student though he has trouble with normal math he exceeds in physics and is best in philosophy
Worst class: Calculus (The teacher doesn't like him...)
Personality: Generally nice but a bit of a loner and a heart breaker, he also never backs down to anyone and is thought to be fearless and his swordplay reflects that...
Backstory: Lee's step mom was a hollywood legend but was supposedly in a Scandalous realtionship so she was forced to leave the country and do work in Japan, where she met Lee's Dad. You see Lee was at a swordshop buying his second katana and (his first was past down from each generation and is worth a small fortune...) she came into buy one and he was (still is since she seeing a rebound) a big fan of her work when he was little and pointed her out to his dad. Ever since his life has been good outside of school. Lee was never really liked at whatever school he went to do to the fact that he didn't respond well to bullies or heirarchies so he is branded an outsider. However Lee still competes in sports and is well respected by most of the athelets at the school since he is the 4th nationaly in Kendo and is shooting for the grand prize this year. This creates some problems and some emotional stress for him and his friends. However Lee channels his emotions outward and uses his fury to master his martial arts and kendo.
Techniques: Capeiora ,Kung-Fu Crane style, Jet Kun Doo, and his own secret form.
Quote: "Hey Look at my thumb!" then after he says that he punches them in the face...
Favorite moves: Rasteria and Sky uppercut and surprise blade rush.

Sweet. Oh, I forgot to mention: be sure to name the school you're going to in a seperate category in your profile for easy reference. Here's my profile:

Name: Derek Marino, nicknamed 'Duke'
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Blood Type: O+
Appearance: 6'3" tall. Is your typical overweight caucasian American, weighing in at 290 lbs., although he looks more like he weighs 250lbs. (doctor says it's high bone densitey, Derek doesn't care). Wears different colored cargo pants, XXL t-shirts and football jerseys, black basketball shoes, and a purple baseball cap with a golden T. Also has hazel-green eyes and short brown hair.
Grade (if applicable): Sophomore
Character Class (Club): None, he's kind of an outcast, although he takes interest in lots of stuff.
Likes: Pizza, music, girls, videogames, red and blue stuff.
Dislikes: injustice, profanity, people who disrespect him and others.
Subject(s) Good At: P.E. (believe it or not), Math, Chemistry
Subject(s) Bad At: History
Part-Time Job (if applicable): None (Taiyo doesn't allow part-time jobs)
School: Taiyo
Personality: Easy-going, friendly, etc. Somewhat of a troublemaker, likes eating, an overall nice guy. However, deep inside his sense of duty and loyalty to friends outweigh his faults. Usually keeps cool, but gets pretty mad when people disrespect him or his friends.
Back Story: Derek lived in northern California, and enjoyed hanging out, playing videogames, and pretty much enjoying life to it's fullest. One day after he completed middle school, he got a scholarship offer from the world-famous Pacific High School in Japan, aparently for his good grades. So, his parents sent him off as a foreign exchange student there for four years, in hopes that Derek would someday return home with as the Valedictorian with the ability to pretty much get into any college he wanted.

Too bad stuff like that never works. When Derek arrived in Japan, he applied to Pacific High, report card in hand. However, as it turns out there was a misprint in his grades, and he missed the 4.0 GPA scholarship cut-off. He could've payed tuition to go there, but he isn't rich. Derek looked at the other two schools in town: Gorin and Taiyo. "Well, I'm not nearly athletic enough to apply to Gorin..." he sadly said to himself, noting his 40" waistline and fairly low stamina. "Taiyo it is, then."

Nearly two years later, Derek is in the middle of his sophomore year, and he's lovin' it. Although he is often called such names as "fatty" and "slobby American" (and gotten into several after-school brawls because of his relatively short temper), he likes to hang out here as much as at home. After school, you can usually find 'Duke' toting his boombox and hanging out with several clubs, including wood shop, auto shop, and community service club.

Quote: "You know, the music [in Japan] isn't that great, but the stereos rule!"

Fighting Style: Duke never took martial arts classes, nor has he been interested in them. However, during the many fights he got into in and out of school through the years, he has fought many people that do use martial arts; by now, he pretty much knows the various techniques they use, and is rarely surprised by the various reversals, attacks, and acrobatics involved.

For the lack of a better description, Duke fights much like Hellboy (in his respective movie, as I've never read the comics): he has a style of his own, and usually comes ot swingin' with hard-hitting punches, kicks, and grapples. He is well-known back in his hometown for being able to fight for a long time, even if he is bruised, battered, and bleeding.

EDIT: Here's the school insignias, edited from The Rival Schools Network:

EDIT (again): added some fighting style commentary to my char profile.

Time you ahd some discipline... and I know I'm being lazy... so what?

Name: Hayato Nekketsu ["The Burning Red Jersey"]

http://snowstorm.50megs.com/profiles/hayato2.gif

Sex: Male
Birthdate: August 15th
Zodiac: Leo
Blood Type: O
Height: 191 cm
Weight: 80 kg
Three Sizes (B-W-H): 111-89-92
Relationship: None
Home Life: N/A
Likes: Bright red jerseys, fighting spirit, sexy and nice women
Dislikes: Disregarding manners, things his parents didn't find important
Special Talent: Slapping things down with the shinai, putting in fighting spirit
Subject(s) Good At: Physical education
Subject(s) Bad At: Puzzling subjects
Club: None
Part-Time Job: None (Teachers are prohibited to have part-time jobs)

Personality: Taiyou Gakuen's number one lady killer, hot-blooded as his name implies. He developed his own sense of justice. Corporal punishment was also one of his own ideas. His students draw a ferocious, unescapable, unstoppable force from his own sense of justice.

Quote: Saaa! Kiai da! (TRANSLATION: Come! Show some spirit!)

Assorted Trivia:

-One reason Hayato strongly encourages students to do physical exercise is because he considers it a method of physical expression of the spirit of youth. Another reason is because he considers it an investment towards good health later in life.

-Hayato feels that students on the whole do not try hard enough in physical activities and are generally getting more and more lazy, lacking that burning, singleminded fighting spirit that should be a prime quality of youth.

-According to Hayato, there are many female students around the school who are his admirers. However, this claim has never found external validation (in particular none of these supposed students have ever been identified).....^^;;;

-Hayato complains about male students who pretend to be sick in order to visit Kyoko at the school clinic. He himself visits Kyoko at the school clinic precisely in order to complain about this (yeah right....)^^;;; (Hayato: "At least that's better than Hideo-sensei who says he goes to the clinic because he's worried about the students' health!")

-Hayato is a fan of Akuma, whom he considers an example of masculinity...

-Hayato occasionally likes playing pachinko machines, and it appears that he is quite good at it.....

-Hayato strongly supports love between students as part of the spirit of youth. He however qualifies that the attitude towards this must be completely pure and not corrupted by sexual mentality (which destroys the spirit of youth). (While entirely correct, this message might be more effective if it had been said by someone else.....-_-) Additionally, Hayato is strongly against numerous romances because of the implicit insincerity of love involved (which also destroys the spirit of youth).

-Hayato's adept sports include running (both sprinting and marathon, though he is better at sprinting), swimming and sumo.

-The name of Hayato's sword is "The Hot-Blooded Bamboo Sword". The hot-blooded (Nekketsu) could be taken from his family name. The name also well reflects the way in which he uses it on students around campus! (Aside, Hayato is confident that he can beat any Kendo Club member in the school in a swordfight.)

-Hayato does not believe in the concept of 'sparring' in martial arts. It's either a fight or it's not!

-Hayato's apartment includes a 'game room' completely devoted to video games, with many great titles available, including Gigawing and Breath of Fire^^

Alrigth somethign tells me my guy will stick up for Mr. V's and will possibly have run track under Dante's coach and possibly a freind of J-man. Whew I thought my guy would be in bad company... Unless of course you need me to be in a diffrent school Mr. V I am up for whatever....

Mr. Viewtiful 04-09-2004 12:16 AM

Spirit: you signed up for Taiyo? if you did, be sure to mention it; I couldn't tell, either because you forgot or sleep deprivation just kicked in.

MasterMage: you gotta improve your grammar a bit, I can't really tell what you're posting. But then again, sleep deprivation kicks in for me right about now...

SCHOOL COUNT!!!
Taiyo: 4 (Mr. V, Dante, J Man, Spirit) FULL
Gorin: 1 (MasterMage)
Pacific: 2 (Ecurt, Ranger)
Undecided: 1 (Lazy Man)

For future reference, no more sign-ups for Taiyo, four chars (3 students, 1 teacher) is enough.

Here's some other stuff I forgot: if chars attend the same school, it is assumed that they at least know each other. Example: Hayato (Dante) would know Duke (Mr. V) as one of his P.E. students. Whether or not they're actual friends is up to you guys, so be sure to set that up.

I say we need about...eh...3-4 more people (after Lazy signs up) before we start. That'd make it 3-4 people per school...yeah, that works nicely.

School:-=Pacific High=-

lazy man 04-09-2004 12:03 PM

Before someone takes it, I'll fill in the last spot for Pacific. Sign-up wil come later.

Truce 04-09-2004 06:57 PM

Well, if they're from Pacific High, they're bound to know eachother (Basic rules of Anime/Videogame). And, since they no eachother, they probably hate eachother or are friends (there is no inbetween...). However, since this is a rivalry between schools, they will likely dislike the other schools, making them at least like eachother.

So yeah, that'll be good.

Edit of Appearance: Wears glasses. They seem to suddenly shine when he's about to change into a fighting style. Clothes seem to mimic those he's copying as well, and he gets "Stats" similar to the original's, as well as equiptment. Mostly copies Ramza from FFT...Currently at the Squire class since he's trying to get "Ultima" right now, but he forgot how.
Be glad he's not mimicking Orlandu.
Anyway..no, he doesn't read DBZ. That would just be too uber, even for me.

RangerAidan 04-09-2004 08:01 PM

Sweet. and I'll edit my apearance, too:

He's fairly tanned year round, and wears the stuff you see in the windows at places such as (to make a generalization) PacSun or Hollister (what can I say, he's a pretty boy). He has dark brown hair which is spiked in whatever is the style of the morning and bright green eyes.

TheSpiritOfVengance 04-09-2004 08:47 PM

I think my guy will do well.

Mr. Viewtiful 04-09-2004 09:07 PM

Hmm...Ecurt, I sure hope your guy fights like a maniac cosplayer, because spells don't exist in this semi-realistic universe. If you tried to cast Ultima, I don't know what exactly what would happen, but don't expect a big bang or anything.

Here's ANOTHER thing I didn't mention, which I assumed everyone else would know: this is supposed to be kinda like normal high school, just...I dunno...wackier. This means that having souped-up Lancers and knowing craploads of martial arts is totally possible (hey, everyone's gotta have fun :D). However, toting around swords, guns, bombs, and drugs (had to mention that...) will probably get your char arrested/suspended/out of favor with the GM. If someone can convince me otherwise, then maybe I'll allow these...I got room in my PM box, if you'd rather have a private debate :)

For some reason, baseball bats, soccer cleats, and other sports equipment is overlooked (especially at Gorin High)...that's just how it goes in the games.

Other news: we need 2-3 more peole to sign up for Gorin high, as Taiyo and Pacific are full. If we can manage a few more recruits, then the RP'll be up by tomorrow.

Name: Paul O'brien
Age: 16
Gender: male
Blood Type: AB-
Appearence: A normal, average, everyday American, appearence wise. He has brown hair, which is messy and short, blue eyes, is about 5'11" with a normal build. He almost always wears jeans and a t-shirt, unless he is forced to wear something else.
Grade: 11th
Character Class: Gadgeteer
Likes: video games, anime, technology(why do you think he went to Japan?)
Dislikes: jocks, dumbasses, pretty much anything else really stupid
Part time job: none
Personality: Probably the most laid back person anyone will meet, he just doesn't care about anything unless it involves him in some way. He also happens to be very insightful, happening to find out the reason of a conversation before it gets too serious...most of the time.
Back Story: Paul is an example of a person who was interested in technology and anything happening to do with it(video games), which is why he went to Japan. He also likes anime, even though he has next to no knowledge about any of the shows that he would want to watch. All of these reasons pushed him to participate in the student exchange program and go to Japan. Unfortunately, he got beat up several times by gangs from the other schools schools in the district, forcing him to become involved in the situation at hand.
School: Pacific

TheSpiritOfVengance 04-09-2004 09:16 PM

If I may I will take my Skyline 34 GT-R over any Lancer anyday of the week. Oh and what if the guy just so happens to collect swords? And one day maybe he finds out his ancestor was a samurai and brings his sword to school for a family history thing? Japanases do take a lot of pride in their heritage you know. Thats the only way I can think of getting a Katana in. As for the fact MM is the only guy in Gorin I guess I can go jock if needed...ONLY IF needed

Mr. Viewtiful 04-09-2004 09:18 PM

You don't necesarily NEED one, per se. Take a look at my guy (Duke): he doesn't have a class. You can make your guy an average student...or think of some school clubs or something to base his fighting off of (there's gonna be quite a few brawls).

Hmm...well, it says he likes tachnology...perhaps he could be a gadgeteer-type guy, using weird gadgets like shocker pens (ACK! It hurts and stings!), glow-in-the-dark yo-yos (hey, they're cool), and a PalmPilot/Laptop (so you can hook up to the internet when waiting in the lunch line).

Of course, most of my thought processes in the Ideas department is going towards the plot, so I apologize if my suggestion is 'lame.'

lazy man 04-09-2004 09:20 PM

Meh, I have trouble thinking in general(hence the repeating names), so I'll just go with the gadgety guy.

Edit- added the class

RangerAidan 04-09-2004 09:41 PM

S'cuse me! Did you just hop a skyline over the evo8? Boy, you had best step down before you get someone hurt. :p

Wait a minute...Spirit, I noticed your guy likes the martial arts, as well as katanas...if you'd like to switch to Gorin, you could revamp your profile to reflect that your guy is in the top ten (or whater) ranking in the school's kendo program, and competes nationally. That way, you could wield a sword-like thingey during a fight. Feel free to collect katanas and such, but be smart with the use of it; killing is a felony in Japan (I'm sure).

And, I take it back about the guns, explosives, and all that good stuff: go ahead and use them, but be ready for the consequences...and I still don't see magic (as in Magic Missle or Firaga) being used here.

EDIT:

I'd take either one over what my character has: his own two legs. I don't know what a Skyline is (Lancers are cool!), but I'm sure that it's a sweet ride.

RangerAidan 04-09-2004 09:53 PM

Note: He's also the most seemingly reluctant ladykiller in the school. Seemingly is to say that he plays around and feigns disinterest for a little bit.

Truce 04-09-2004 11:05 PM

Mr. V - When the magic stuff fails it'll be funny.

Henry: Ugh...
Villain: Hahah. There's no way you can win now.
Henry: No...there's got to be a way...ULTIMA!
*Bright Flash*
Villain: AAAAAHHH!
Friend: Uh...whoops, sorry. *Turns off floodlight*
Henry: Oh...damn. Plan B. *Trips Villain while Villain is temporarily blind* I win.

Anyway, Maniac Cosplayer sounds cool. Especially when I bust out Cloud's Buster Sword or Auron's Jug (We all know what's in it...). Then again...I could always pull a Soul Caliber and transform into Nightmare or Kilik...or Link, of course.

TheSpiritOfVengance 04-09-2004 11:35 PM

I think I will do that mr.v as for the Skyline Lets Just say that its legendary in JApanese street racing and look it up on the net. Some of them get tons of horsepower and can go fast as hell while still being 4WD. The problem is the cost like a ferrari.

Mr. Viewtiful 04-10-2004 10:46 PM

A four-wheel drive street racer? That's pretty cool. It not only wins street races, but slap on some sll-terrain tires and it'll win offroad races, too! (although you'd either be a psycho or heckuva rich to do that).

And, now that I think of it, seeing Henry (Ecurt's guy) being a maniac cosplayer would be funny. Not only would Ultima be a flash (as mentioned before), but take a look at this:

Villain: You tripped me while blind, but now I'm wearing sunglasses and now I shall win!
Henry: DRESS SPHERE CHANG!
*prettyful flash*
Henry: *points baton* HAH! I shall vanquish you!
Villain: In what, that Sailor Moon costume?
Henry: *loks down* oh, nobody is supposed to know about that....
*POOF*
Henry (Cloud style!): NOW I shall vanquish you!
*lifts buster sword*
Henry: OMNISLASHERZ!!!!1!!
*sword falls down due to weight*
Villain: You can't lift that? Dang, you're gonna beat yourself if this keeps going...
*POOF*
Henry/Auron: SUPER SAKAE LIMIT BREAKERZORZ!!!
*drinks beer*
Henry: Now you shall die by pink elephand incandescense!
Villain: Huh?
Henry: Move zig for yo momma! ZORT! *passes out*
Villain: *strikes winpose*
Anouncer: and that's why minors don't drink beer, kids!

IT'S OVER!!!

On that not, we need some more people. Any ideas, guys?

Darth SS 04-10-2004 11:13 PM

I have a question.

Could I do a character that's just moving in, and gets stuck in the new "grouped" high school?

TheSpiritOfVengance 04-10-2004 11:20 PM

If your gonna do an SC style transformation do cervantes! All those crazy moves wouldbe hilarious!
Villian: Haha! I have you conered now what?!
Henery: Geo Dae Ray Biatch!
Villain: What the fug! AIIIEEEE!
Henery: Storm Flare!
Villian: But I havent touched the ground! Blarg!
Announcer : And with an astounding knowledge of.. err... whatever henery wins...

Truce 04-10-2004 11:41 PM

Going through the names, I know who's going to get annoyed the most by Henry. Can anyone say Digimon?

Psymon: Get the hell away from me!
Henry (As WarGreymon): No! I cannot let evil prevail! Terra Force!
Psymon: Oh no!
Psymon gets hit in the back of the head by a large red ball. Due to the force of the attack, Psymon goes through the wall.
Henry: I won't let you get away!
Ben: *Sigh*

As for people...I don't have any advice to give you there.

Could I be a guy from Gorin who is a master of dodgeball? The large red ball thing in Ecurt's post reminded me of dodgeball. All I would need is some fat kids to throw the ball at.

IHMN-Sure, go ahead. My guy is fat (more so than everyone else, at least), so feel free.

This is going to turn out as a non-serious RP most of the time, it seems. EXACTLY what I was shooting for. Dang, you guys think a lot like I do...

I think I'll enjoy my role as a rationalizing force.

I'll have the first chapter up either tonight or tomorrow. If people are still signing up, don'y worry, since the first chapter is mostly just setting the scene, anyways. If you PM me, I'll be able to fit in your char nearly anywhere in the RP.
