The Shortpacked! discussion thread

So I think Mirai Gen said in the last QC thread that he'd start a Shortpacked! discussion when said QC thread closed, around which time it promptly died out. Thus, the task seems to have fallen to me. This is the thread for all your Walkyverse strip discussion needs, Shortpacked! in particular.

That said, I'm not sure what I can say about it. It's centered on the goings-on of a toy store and its employees, with a heavy dose of one-shot toy/comic book/etc. gags. Honestly, I miss a lot of these; among the jokes I do get, though, there are some pretty wonderful ones:

Beyond that, there's some solid character-oriented humor and development. Amber has changed a lot especially; certain characters are defined more by a single trait (Mike's assholery, Ninja Rick's ninja obsession/weeaboo tendencies, Faz' douchiness), but they don't appear much when it doesn't add anything. It's generally for the best, though a few of us have agreed that a video series of Lawsome would be nothing short of completely great.

Shortpacked! is awesome. Discussion over.

Also: Video series?! Mo' like Lawsome: The Feature Length Film. I would watch the hell out of that.

This man knows his stuff.

Shortpacked does it again

this was spot-on.

Yeah I saw that and I was like "What?"

I...but...

...yeah."

Tell me about it. I turned my head to gaze at my collection of the Batman/Superman Graphic Novels and just about broke down and cried.

On the other hand, I was afraid no one was going to say anything about it at some 40+ issues now? I mean, I know there's a format they are working with here but come on!

...Today's strip makes me wonder if we actually will see some development of Mike. That feels pretty weird. Shortpacked! always seemed determined to avoid showing sides of him beyond "resident asshole," even more so than It's Walky did; on the other hand, it might have the potential to be really interesting if it did go that way. I'm willing to say that the whole Dina plot arc was one of the best in IW, and one thing about it is that Mike actually got to be more of a human being, without veering totally out of character.

It'd be even better if it were live action.

You and me both man.

It doesn't make me dislike Bats/Supes at all, but it's still like, "Hey...but...damn it he's right."

I'm torn between viewing his moving the entire cast into the same house as a craven act of creative bankrupcy or being okay with that cause it's still pretty funny.

Strips like this I feel argue for the latter whereas strips like this sort of tilt me towards the former.

Either way it is totally unfair the way Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin ripped off Robin's shtick.

Mirai Gen 10-11-2008 02:35 AM

I was wondering that myself but I didn't want to double post.

It seemed...random? Especially since nobody knows anything about Mike other than how much he likes causing misery and suffering upon everyone around him, yet they're just like "kewl, move in."
