Karl Rove to McCain: "One step too far"

Ladies and Gentlemen:
I give you Karl Rove

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/...rap/index.html

(CNN) -- Former Bush adviser Karl Rove said Sunday that Sen. John McCain had gone "one step too far" in some of his recent ads attacking Sen. Barack Obama.

Rove has leveled similar criticism against Obama.

"McCain has gone in some of his ads -- similarly gone one step too far," he told Fox News, "and sort of attributing to Obama things that are, you know, beyond the '100 percent truth' test."

The Obama campaign immediately leaped on the quote.

"In case anyone was still wondering whether John McCain is running the sleaziest, most dishonest campaign in history, today Karl Rove -- the man who held the previous record -- said McCain's ads have gone too far," said campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor, in a statement sent to reporters minutes after Rove's on-air comments. Rove masterminded both of President Bush's successful White House bids.

The man behind spreading a rumor that McCain fathered a child with a black woman and then adopted the baby to hide the truth during the 2000 South Carolina Republican Primary seems to have little ability to measure what is or is not "too far" in presidential campaign politics. I'm also assuming that the Obama campaign is defining "modern presidential campaign history" in the shortest of terms, as on the whole this has probably been the most civil and respectful campaign in the history of these United States.

That said, it's not only ridiculous to me that the McCain camp and the GOP in general feels it can get away with questioning Obama's qualifications and character without actually substantially addressing any of the serious issues whilst simultaneously acting all indignant and horrified whenever someone raises similar questions regarding either member of the current Republican ticket, but the fact that it's apparently working kills me.

Apathy will kill this nation.
People just don't believe in government anymore.
They trust everything to the government, but they have no true belief in it.

I for one support Obama mainly because of the way he's been running a clean, honest, and respectful campaign. I'd rather trust an inexperienced, but seemingly moral and honest man than a well-practiced schemer and slanderer. I haven't seen a single good move from McCain in this election. He's just slandered his opponent and then hired a VP because she's just like him.

Is that Michelle Obama second from the left? Or is it some alien from the next Star Trek movie?

Both!

Think about it guys. Do you really want a president who's married to a Star Trek villain?

greed 09-15-2008 12:25 PM

What the Republicans haven't been married to this one's villain? Also someone totally needs to photoshop Khan into a pillbox hat, he'd be a great first lady.

Also Karl Rove criticising anything for a lack of ethics is absurd. Roided up athletes ram needles in their arms and beat their wives going "Hey at least I'm not Karl Rove".

Well, I dunno about you, but I for one would think that'd be pretty cool.

Lord Setheris 09-15-2008 01:22 PM

I think this thread is now about which Star Trek villains would make good vice presidents or first ladies.

And the Borg Queen is the obvious choice. She's a powerful reformer who will legalize abortion, suicide, murder, and make elimination of the weak mandatory. Also all dead will now be carved up and their internal structures used to fuel our war machine.

I could really get behind a McCain/Borg Queen ticket. Also I have a feeling the queen would be undefeated in the debates.

I can see the ad now.

We are the Borg. Lower your heads and surrender your votes. Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our campaign. Resistance is futile.
"I'm John McCain and I approve this message."
