Having a bit of a problem...
(First off, I didn't see anything about ROM/emulator discussion in the rules, but if such discussion isn't allowed I am sorry.)
Alright see I've played through parts of FF1 here and there but never had a chance to play all the way through the game. So I recently decided I should simply download a Final Fantasy 1 ROM and a NES emulator; however, all my attempts to properly download either have proved very dissapointing. The only emulator I had any success with eventually just completly refused to work after I had gotten somewhere around the earth tunnel on the ROM. This was rather dissapoiting but I figured I could always work my way back up to that point as long as I could find a new emulator that worked; but, more or less, I haven't. I've downloaded somewhere around 10 different NES emulators over the course of the day, all of them incapitable with my computer for some reason or another. I finally found a emulator (NESter) that actually opens up, that's a start. However when I load my FF1 ROM on this emulator it simply crashes. I'm hoping this is due to a problem with my ROM file, which could be easily overcome by downloading a new ROM. So, does anyone know of a good place to find FF1 ROM's? |
I have a fantastic one that works just fine. If you PM me I can easily email it to you or send it to you on AIM. Plus, if you want I also have a great working FF1 ROM that I can send you that doesn't crash with this emulator.

Well, besides the advice of Bob there, you could also download Jnes, it works for and I haven't had problems with it. But you should first try out Bob's suggestion.
|
Rocknes is also a good emu. If Bob's doesn't work I've got quite a few emulators for you to try, and I've got a working rom just pm me and I'll email it to you as well.

FF1 goes for about 10 bucks or less on ebay. That and maybe throwing 30 down for a nes with 6 games, and it may almost seem worth it to do things legally. I mean, how many times have you paid out $30.00 for a game? Lots.
Just because paying for a game means no virus threats, porn links, and less irritation doesn't mean it's too good to be true. That's just the other opinion, if you care for it. |
That's no fun though martyr. You don't get that rush you get from doing it the illegal way.

As far as NES emulators go, FCEUltra is the best. Familiarize yourself with zophar.net, it's the only site you'll ever need for emulators... Roms on the other hand, well, you're on your own there.

I don't think that Emulators are forbidden, I just think it is frowned upon.
And personally, I use them because I'm too paranoid to trust that I won't get a piece of crap from eBayers. I have an NES, and simply by age it has degraded into a piece of garbage, so I don't trust to get one in perfect condition from anyone else knowing that I take good care of my systems and it is basically so old it's useless. And also, I don't know what websites you all visit, but the emulation sites I visit don't seem to have a problem with virus threats, porn links, or excess irritation, other then tracking them down in the first place. |
ROMs... well... edgeemu.com.
Downsides: You have to register, and it's full to the brim with reallyannonying popups (which you can't simply block because the download window itself is a pop-up...) ... on the other hand, registration is free, you only need a valid e-mail address, and they don't give that away, so you get no spam. Plus, it is reasonably fast and has probably... Every. Freaking. ROM. That. Exists. I mean it. They even have demo versions of, for example, Starfox 2 for SNES. Your choice. |
