Evolution
In this game, you start off as a fish. A small fish, about 6" long, with herbivorous eating habits. There are a whole lot of "segments". Each segment (generally) has a problem, such as food being sparse and so forth. There are also "free" segments, where there are no troubles for one reason or another. Anyway, during each segment, you can make a minor change to your race. This can include such things as omnivorousness, the ability to burrow, double the size, etc. although I can reduce the power of these things. However, gaining an additional movement type, like amphibiousness or flight, takes three of these. When you do this, you say something along the lines of "I put a point into becoming amphibious". There really isn't much of a goal, aside from becoming bigger and better. Oh, also, there are "notches" of members of your race. You start at the 100th notch. If the notch equals zero, the race is dead. You gain 10% of the races notch every turn, though when dealing with a problem, it'll pretty much either stay or go down. At the 500th, 2500th, 12500th notch and so forth, the number of segmental evolutions doubles.
Also, since this game will take a whole lot of work for just one person, I'm going to limit the number of players to three or four. Basically, this is how it goes. Me: Okay, there's a sparseness of food. How does the race react? You: They become omnivorous, and begin eating other, smaller fish. Me: All right. A predator species moves in. They're about four times the size of your race. Oh, and you've gained 10 on your notch. You: The race begins to burrow underground. About six feet deep. Me: It burrows six inches, not six feet. Anyway, the predators are becoming keener eyed, thus your notch goes down 5. You're at 105 now. What does the race do? You: Well, they'll only become keener eyed. We burrow four times as deep. Me: All right. They can't see you, so your notch is increased by ten. And so forth. |
Hmm, an interesting, and fairly original, idea actually. Reminds of the game E.V.O, and of something I read in a book once. How would we start off, would we need to design our starting race? And would the 3-4 people that join be in competition for the best race? Also, when would it end? Would the game end when our race had evolved to Human level and dominated all others, or something before that?
I'm highly interested in this concept. Newness is muchly appreciated by this one.
Sounds pretty interesting. I'd ask some questions, but most of them FZ just asked. How do you want the sign-ups to look like? Or do we just and leave it at that?
Just say you're joining and name 1) your race [for ease of reference] 2) your planet and 3) your solar system.
Like Kharel, Jikul, and Blaekki. That way I can refer to it easier. It's not really competing, but the races can meet, fight big wars, etc. It would end whenever I, y'know, decide I can't do it anymore. Eventually the race will evolve into PURE ENERGY and RULE THE UNIVERSE! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! er... or something. If your race dies you can start over, or let someone else play. |
So we don't start on the same planet? But won't it take a considerable length of time to evolve up to simians? Let alone spacefaring intelligent bipedal type things?
And then once we have evolved to that point, what do we do next? After the gaining of Technology, technological advances usually come faster then evolutionary ones, so would the game change from Evolution to Technology?
Ok, so far it still sounds interesting, but can we start as something other than a fish? Maybe something like a chipmunk? (Well... probably not, but you get the point.)
I don't have a problem starting as a fish, it just seems that once it reaches a certain point, it becomes nearly impossible to manage.
The example is confusing, seeing as you have fish digging into the ground 24 inches. Now I'm no biologist, but I don't think a species of fish that dig that deep will have a large chance of getting back out of the 2 feet of dirt they are in.
