Why are my torernts so slow???
 

I know they're normally pretty slow, but I just looked at some of my peers, and most of them are getting 300kb/s plus, and I'm getting 19. 19. What the fuck?!? People are downloading from me at rates of 100kb/s?!?

Sorry...Got away from me there. Anyway, any advice? I have tried turning off my firewall, so that's out.

Also, I'm not downloading from most of the seeds. I'm connecting, but not downloading anything. In fact, most of what I'm downloading is coming from people who aren't seeds, so it's like I'm getting the data from a middleman. Kinda like a drug dealer.

what are you downloading first of all?

1 - This is probably a little too into piracy what with torrent clients being a huge contributor to the piracy issue as a whole.

2 - If people aren't seeding...that means you aren't getting your data. I don't think there's much specifics beyond that.

Shut down the porn windows. Also, maybe find a different... torrenter, I guess is the word? I like ABC, and Limewire works in a pinch.

People are seeding, and I'm connecting to them, I'm just not downloading from them, that's the problem.

And, for the record, I've actually bought the game I'm pirating, but my disk is damaged beyond use, and I'd really rather not buy a used copy that may or may not work any better. It's Majesty Gold Edition, and it's dirt cheap, but I want a disc I know will work, and I bought it when it was new, god knows how many years ago, so the developers got their share from me. Not trying to justify pirating, just explaining myself. :sweatdrop

I don't like downloading stuff like that, not only because it's piracy but because it's such a pain to setup! Just read all of these instructions that are on the torrent section.

If you've got a DSL connection, try limiting the upload speed to 5 kb/s or so. The more you upload, the less you can download at the same time. (Might be worth it to try that anyway, I don't know how other types of connections handle that.)

And guys. a) It doesn't matter one bit what he's downloading. When there's a thread about getting help with a hard drive you don't go "what are you trying to store on it" either. And b) I'm getting mighty sick of having to clarify rules in every other thread where someone just has to go "hey this might be against the rules because such and such" and the rest of you starts to discuss that. If it's against the rules we'll bloody come along and say so.

Okay, doing that starting now. I figured it was better to be safe than sorry.



ABC and Utorrent (Except it isn't really a U, it's a letter I don't know how to put into ACSII) are both pretty good options if your current tracker isn't working.

Other than that, I dunno. Limiting upload speed seems like the only general option to fix what might be ailing you.

How many though? If there's like, three guys and two of them have shitty connections, and the other one has his upload speed limited, you're not going to get your downloads very quick.

Sometimes that's just the way it is with bittorrent. It's the price we pay.
