It seems to me that they're making it like some kind of theme park version. Like the Dragon Balls are just some gimmick artifact...Something like The Medallion, from the movie of same name. I'm expecting kung fu fighting with random kamehamehas.

Energy attacks and flight were skills only a few people know. Goku didn't learn to fly until saiyan saga. As for guns, really guns appear in dragonball and dragonball Z alot, they just got edited out
