The thread about postponing events with possible negetive outcomes.

I have an Xbox 360. The story behind this XBox is that after my wii got broken, I sold all of my wii stuff and worked my butt off until finally I had money for an XBox 360. I decided that instead of buying one new, I would save money for more games by buying a used one online. I went wiispace (where I've been a member for like a year, so people know me there a bit) and bought a used Xbox 360 with hard drive and some other fancy stuff. The cost came down to 180 dollars.

Anyways, it turned out to be a scam. I got ripped off, and was sent an Xbox with the notorious UNPLAYABLE DISK ERROR! After literally 2 months of constant fighting with Microsoft tech support, getting opinion and second opinion from members of various tech and XBox forums, I finally got the repair parts I needed and fixed the Xbox.

I think.

The dillemma I am in now is one in which I am afraid to turn on the Xbox and find out if it worked for fear that it might indicate failure.

Has anyone been in similar situations to this? Ones where you forestall something that must inevitably happen because you're scared to death at what the outcome of something that is technically already decided might be?

Oh absolutely, this kinda defines my life unfortunately. A lot of it has to do with more personal health issues than anything else. But out of the ones that I've actually gone to a doctor and gotten checked out, they've worked out fine so I'm breathing a bunch of sighs of relief.

On a related note, when I finally get this baby started up, one of two things will happen.

1) It will work, and I will experience a rare but spectacular event called a joygasm.

2) It will fail, I will cry, and I will realize there is no longer anything at all I can do to make the Xbox work. The only option left is to coat it in diesel fuel and light it like a magnificent candle of revenge and justice. If this is the case, I'll be recording a video.

Erwin Schrodinger would like a word with you.

Shoulda bought new! That at least would have increased your chances of not-suckiness.

Well, I thought it would have been safe to buy something from a moderator at a forum I'd used for little short of a year.

This happens to me basically every day. Cause my machines break something about 2-3 times a week and I have to stop everything and fix it then hope it works. And it's always scary. Especially when something breaks inside the vacuum chamber and I have to open it up fix it and then reestablish the vacuum which takes about a week. And then it's still broken :(.

How about asking someone out?

HAHAHHAHAHAHHA!

So it turns out that the thing has this 'power cord' thing. And it actually has to have the Xbox PLUGGED INTO it for it to work. I did that and it worked.

The best part is, this is the story of my freaking life. I spend hours, days, weeks, and MONEY on some hardcore operation that may save my Xbox, and I do that part perfectly but forgot to PLUG IT INTO THE XBOX's POWER SOURCE.

Commencing Joygasm.

Joygasm in progress.

...So you're saying it got an unplayable disk error BEFORE you turned it on? I'm incredibly interested in how this managed to happen.

And I totally agree with Zilla right about now.
