The 'CW' brings us yet another superhero crapfest

Today's shortpacked is not a joke.

See, they're going to take another interesting concept and allow the brainless masses to navigate this setting into the murky waters of teen-drama. This is going to wind up worse than Smallville ever was. Now, instead of 'monster-of-the-week' fillers, we're going to have a 15-year old something Dick 'DJ' Grayson (Arrrgggg please shoot me!) played by some 20-something heartthrob straight out of Tiger-Beat being all "UH OH! DJ asked two girls out to the prom but got held up stopping a mugger on the way! What's he gonna do!"

'Original take on the character' my ass.

Woo let's hear it for decently successful shows being turned into a template to add to everything you can find!

Also; I thought that Smallville was good? I mean I'm not saying "Popularity polls" or "Critics," but I'm remembering the discussion threads that popped up about Smallville a few years ago here on NPF. Did it just get stretched into suckitude?

EDIT:

In the one-hour "Graysons," which will be set in modern times, young DJ will face challenges involving first loves, young rivals and his family as he grows up. Souders and Peterson have come up with an original take on the character.
Original take on the character my shiny metal ass.

Yup. We're boned.

to quote Dr. Cox:

"I'm gagging and vomiting at the same time. I'm...I'm gavomiting!'

Wow, this is such a horrible idea it's almost impressive.
I'd almost say they should have gone with a pre-Batman story, but I wouldn't want it made by someone who thought "the Graysons" sounds like a good idea.

uh! wait! I'm getting "Birds of prey" vibes about this... yup... there it is!

Well, Smallville started out all right- I mean, yeah it was teen drama fused with superhero misadventures but it was sort of charming and decent.

But then you get really bad writing which forces the actors to do do things totally out of character, storyarcs with no end, explanation, or relevance to the Superman mythos in sight. And I mean the Clark /Lana thing just goes on and on and on. It's tidious! And what isn't tedious relationship BS is over-saturated with fantastic elements that aren't explained and that don't need to be in a Superman show. And by the way - 8 seasons long now, and we're well into the timeframe covered by 'Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman' which overall is turning out to be the better show, sadly. If clark isn't a boy anymore, what is he? Effing Superman! In Metropolis!

You know, done right, the adventures of a pre-Batman Bruce Wayne would be decent.

Done right.

DJ Grayson did nothing interesting before his parents died.

Relatively decent.

Actually, I think knowing what eventually happens, "The Happiest Kid on Earth," is quite possibly the best story ever.

Ever.

I'm kind of glad they're doing this instead of something with actual potential to be good, like Wayne. In the event of the latter I'd be tempted to actually watch it and be horrified how Smallville-bad it turns out, whereas this is just so broken from the get-go that there's no reason to care.
