Final Fantasy Character Designs are Boring
http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/3750/boringkk0.jpg
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm personally tired of looking at the same(or similar) characters all of the time. So the question is, what kind of character designs would you like to see? What might visually spice up the game, and characters so we aren't just looking at androgenous pretty boy after adrogenous pretty boy? I, personally, would like to see more hair colors than Blond, Silver, Brown, and Black. Red hair, maybe? And not stupid unrealistic red hair, but actual red hair. Also, not every shade of blond is a super-light, almost white blond. There's dirty blond, strawberry blond, etc etc. I have plenty more, but I don't want to take them all up first so... So how about you guys? What kind of character designs would you like to see more of. |
Faris. (Purple haired Pirate) I'd actually like to see her rendered better, ala FF7:AC or Dissidia. In game she pulled a Cleopatra, convincing people she was a guy, so she wouldn't be BigChest McHottie, but believable.

To be fair, that's not Ashe's final design. They ended up making her less French and with a dirtier blonde look.
I believe that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a step in the right direction. While it maintains a certain "anime" style, it's a lot more grounded in reality (LESS ZELTS AND BIPPERS) than the previous games have been. On the other hand, I adored all of Yoshida's designs in Final Fantasy XII (except for Vaan's). That's one trend I hope they had the balls to follow. |

Unless you're talking about wanting more Faris-like characters, then yes. We need more purple haired pirates in our FFs! EDIT: Quote:

Good thing I edit posts for clarification.
Also: I would love to see my Avatar as some realized FF character, SOMEHOW. The smugness is just too great to pass up. Quote:

I read an interview with the design folks at Square several years ago. Around FF8 I guess. They said in no unclear terms that they aim for perfection rather than variety, realism, originality or anything else. Basically they want each character to look as godlike as possible. As evidenced by the five pictures above, their vision of God has brown hair and a pointy chin.
It's funny, when asked about reinforcing unhealthy body images in youth culture et cetera they didn't understand the question at all. Maybe some cultural thing. What I'd like to see? The word is variety I suppose. And for the love of Jegus no more abstract dresses that can't even be rendered in action sequences. (I'm looking at youuuu, Lulu.) |

There should be a character who is a zombie, looks like a zombie, but talks with a surprisingly eloquent Southern accent.

You know what would make some of those women in that picture stand out, without making me feel quite so much like I'm looking at exactly the same
Glasses. They're stylish and sexy (shut up, they are too!) and they add about thirty IQ points to the character (and this applies to characters of both sexes, too) before they open their mouth and ruin it =P . |
Quistis had glasses, didn't she? Also, yes, glasses am sexy.
