Changes ahead for Chrono Trigger?

Good morning, Crono.

Since Square decided to finally put up the english site, I'll have to be checking in with that every day or two.

My friends over at the Chrono Compendium have uncovered fascinating things about the Chrono Trigger DS which make me feel extremely happy.

http://chronocompendium.com/

First the big things.
A new Dimensional Distortion dungeon, whatever that means, a Dragon Sanctuary, and a battle arena where you can train, breed, and battle tons of new kinds of monsters over the DS wireless.

Next. Some retranslation has occurred, Frog's old English style accent may have been corrected or simply eliminated (he had no such accent in the japanese version of the game).

Anyways, as the days come closer I get more and more excited about this game. LONG LIVE CHRONO TRIGGER!

46 days to go...

Seriously, I'm really excited about this.

From Gamespot:

We learned that there will be a classic mode where it will play exactly like the PlayStation version, without any stylus controls. The battle menus will take up residence in your battle screen, just as you remember. However, if you do want to use the stylus, you can switch to the DS mode where menus are shifted to the touch screen so that you get a full view in the top screen. So if you don't want to deal with the stylus, you don't have to.
More options = better game (usually, of course)

...Damn it, Square. I like Chrono Trigger, don't fuck it up.

Guys, I have CT for the PS1, but I never played it.

I think I'm going to play it. Maybe I will understand everyone here better.

Caution, it's a good game, great game for its era, but people here are a little (a lot) overzealous about it.

And the PS1 version has loading times, right? That might sour things a bit.

I love how the friggin' CHARACTER SECTION spoils that you get Magus on your team in the videos.

Nique 10-09-2008 03:37 PM

I can see that - The thing is my little brother played (and beat) it, and loved it? I mean, the kid's gaming consists primarily of Kingdom Hearts and like... Spyro the Dragon?

Fifthfiend 10-09-2008 03:40 PM

Yeah, fuck the PS1 version. Play it on the SNES or whatever convenient non-illegal totally legitimate approximation thereof.

Everyone knows that Aeris dies and FF7 has been around for less time. You don't need to spoiler that, seriously.

And yeah, at least on mine, the PSX version took at least 20 seconds to show the menu. Freakin' unbearable.
