I gotta hand it to whomever wrote CT's script - Magus worked really well in that you've got a guy you spend hours and hours of the game hating and working to kill, then suddenly you're like, oh, crap, it totally isn't him. And he joins your party.

And it makes sense!

Lord Setheris 10-11-2008 03:45 PM

I'll always be a lucca-lover.

She's just so awesome.

But Magus kicks ass too. If only he could find fitting gloves.

I'm more of a lavos fan, always will be.

What is your favorite form of Lavos and/or attack?

I'll always love the outer shell Lavos with the destruction rains...
But I also always love how no matter how insanely overbuffed my defenses are armor are that Grand Stone attack by Lavos Core always manages to nearly kill me.

ironymaster 10-11-2008 04:28 PM

I liked the final version I guess. I'm indifferent, I like Lavos in general.

ROBO 4EVA! XD

Frog is a close second.

I'm actually wondering about the religious translations. Lightning was originally called "Heaven," which is why you have all sorts of light stuff in there as well, like the casting sparkles and Luminaire, and why when you open a "Lightning" book, it makes a wind noise and tornado graphic. It would be an interesting choice to un-censor a lot of Nintendo's anti-religion policies. Not necessarily a GOOD choice, but an interesting one.

Also, I like Grandleon better than Masamune for a sword that is decidedly NOT a katana, but I doubt they'll change it after keeping it in CC.

Jagos 10-11-2008 04:54 PM

Hmm... Think there's a chance they'll finish CC? With an added interest in CT, they may recon the CC universe, make it more coherent, and add Radical Dreamers to boot.

(Never played it myself... So... yeah)

Oh, and Lucca. Smarts, guns, and she fixed Robo in like one night. Brains are always hotness. :D

Lord Setheris 10-11-2008 04:57 PM

I have the fan traslation so here you go.
Frog meets the crew. You can judge for yourselves if Frog's personality was changed.

Frog: Don't let your guard down until the end. It's when your drunk with victory that your guard is wide open.
Frog: Did you come to aid the queen too?
Frog: It looks like it's their den from here on. How's this, would you come with me?
Lucca: You're...?
Lucca: Crono you know right? I can't handle frogs...!
Frog: Well as long as I'm like this I guess it'd be pointless to tell you to trust me...
Frog: Fine, do what you want, but I've got the help the queen out
Lucca: H,hold on.
Lucca: You don't seem like a bad fro... person... um...
Lucca: What'll we do Crono?
(select Go with the Frogman)
Lucca: L,let's put up with it and go together!
Lucca: What's your name?
Frog: Frog's fine.
Lucca: Yes, well then. Don't be too hard on me Frog.
Frog: Sure. I'm positive there should be a secret passage somewhere in this room.
Frog: I'll bet we can get into the back from there.

I'll include other key scenes as I go along, unless there is a downright reason I should not.

Again, these are from the fan translation that the people over at chrono compendium worked on. This is not in any way an indication of what may be included in the DS game. In fact, they'll likely keep the original american version's dialogue unchanged.
((also please note that having the relearn all the dual and triple tech names and monster names sucks... but relearning armor and weapon names sucks more))

If anybody wants any other specific scenes posted, I can do my best

Honestly, I've never been a fan of as-close-to-Japanese translations. He may word some things completely different in Japanese, but due to cultural, and linguistic reasons, it would be perceived different than us. Is he using polite form? Plain form? Honorific form? What suffixes are being put on the names that he says? Even in just the way our languages are set up changes how we perceive things. That's why I like translations that take a human touch to them, making them fit the culture they're translating them for better.

Quote:

Frog's old English style accent may have been corrected or simply eliminated (he had no such accent in the japanese version of the game).
I'm not an expert in the Japanese language by any means, but I would venture to guess that he isn't speaking with an old-english accent in the Japanese version because he's speaking Japanese. I wouldn't know the difference between something that might be the Japanese equivalent (old Japanese?) but, once again, it's like I said about a human translation. It just seems to fit better with our culture and the way that we would perceive him. Out of curiousity, did Cyan from FF6 have some sort of "accent" in the Japanese version?

Anyway, off of that topic, favorite character? I dunno, I have a special spot in my heart for Dalton. You just have to love him.

Although I love every single character. They all have their qualities I love. I am fond of Lucca though.

I'm foind of the random Lucca and Magus shipping

In all seriousness, I am fond of all the characters as each have their own charm. Even if R-66Y rickroll's us every freaking time his theme plays.

But I ahve to say the Bumbling Mini Boss Trio are especially good.
