Spore Expansion Pack next month

The Creepy and Cute Parts Pack is already scheduled to arrive on November 18, and it will upgrade the game with 100 new creature-creating parts focused on opposite ends of the cute vs. monstrous spectrum.
But that's not all. Clearly embracing an expansion schedule not unlike previous Will Wright empire The Sims, EA also revealed another as-yet-untitled expansion for Spore. Set to arrive in spring 2009, this expansion is focused on the space stage of the game and sounds a bit more sizable. It will include the ability to beam your creatures down to new planets for exploring, interacting with the natives, and taking on new missions. This second expansion will also add a new layer of user creation through the "Adventure Creator," which allows users to craft unique missions that will then be populated out to other players' games, just like the creatures, vehicles, and buildings.

1UP will be speaking with Maxis general manager Lucy Bradshaw to get more information on the upcoming expansions and the team's plans for continued development of Spore. Stay tuned for more details later today.

100 new parts? Awesome! "Make your own Mission" System? Awesome too!!

2 Expansion packs already underway (the first one hist on November) and later on another one!

Now all we need are Underwater civilizations and Sky People!!

Also, some sort of Communication between players like a "Galatic Post board" would be really cool, y'know.

Oooo, EA gon' milk this for all it's worth. No surprise there. I suppose I should check it out sometime, but there really seems to be a general air of disappointment around Spore...

I'm getting really tired of EA doing this.

Isn't this essentially the exact same thing that was done for The Sims?

...It ruined an earlier fascination with the games, in my opinion, if only because The Sims and The Sims 2 had, what, like 20 different expansion sets each, which each cost like $30, and which each barely contained any new significant modifications?

Well I'm out. Here I was thinking I was going to get something great and now I get this. Here's a thought. How about some FREE updates. I mean the games already buggy and short. why not gives us something better.

I'd personally love a Star trek mod. You know, beaming down to the surface and interacting with tribals. Then making sweet love to their ladies.

It was a game by Will Wright and EA. Did any of you expect any different?

Even remotely different?

And I mean, the Sims is so ridiculously successful, they'd be silly not to try the same mechanic again.

Yes, the game could definitely use some tweaking and fleshing out at various stages, not just more parts and more to do at the space stage.

What game have you been playing, if you don't mind me asking?
I mean... yeah, sure. If you consider getting to the spacestage the final goal, then it's short.

Oh well.

True, if you count the 3 games I've started, one currently Creature, one Civilization, and one about a quarter-way into Space, with about 30 hours clocked onto everything combined, Spore is easily classified as a "Medium" in terms of game length, with much potential to make it to "Long As Hell."

Of course, defining short, that would be your standard 6-10 hour shooter.

I dunno. Games that are 6-10 hours seem to be the norm now.

Another note: You live in Ottawa? I'm coming up there in February.
