Should I get a Xbox 360 or not?

I'm interested in getting the $299 version of the Xbox 360. (I already have a Wii and a DS fyi.)

I mostly just wanted to see how happy everyone is with their system before making any final decisions.

Games I'm interested in include:
Grand Theft Auto 4
Dead Rising
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I'm not interested in any sort of sports title though.

Any thoughts or impressions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes.

I mean, really. Its a staple, solid all around next gen console. You can pretty much get any game on there, exceptions being the large-name exclusives.

Its like the PS2 of this generation. I'm totally happy with mine.

Dead Rising is an experience you have to play. And don't get it for Wii, it will suck.

I bought the Xbox 360 Elite nine months ago, and I've been intensely pleased with the purpose. I pumped insane playtime into Dead Rising in particular, and it's one of my favourite titles, despite being one of the console's earlier games.

Pros: It's just an all around good gaming system as far as I'm concerned. Standard control scheme, nice interface, nice online service, and very good selection of games.

Cons: Throws out heat like it's nobody's business. If you live in a cold climate, such as the Antarctic, then forget conventional heating systems: just keep your 360 running.

Brought to you by someone who owns, on top of the 360, a PS2, Wii (formerly), and DS; hopefully that provides some kind of benchmark on where my pros and cons are coming from. With the recent price drop, I'd consider the 360 totally worth it.

Also, if you do buy it, get Earth Defense Force 2017. It's AWESOME! And probably in some god-forsaken bargain bin marked "Oh God, We'll Pay YOU To Take It" (or approximately $7 CDN).

I would wait a bit more, Microsfot is spitting out stuff to make you buy the 360 like it's nobody business, they simply wont let Sony get ahead without a bloobath first... sometimes it's i feel like im watching Internet Explore Vs Netscape redux really...

But Christmas is coming, and you're BOUND to have some nice deals starting next month, so it might be worthy.

Also, remember that you should aim at a 360 with a internal HD or you could miss the current new Online service they are providing.

I dont like the 360, never did, probably never will... But if that's your console, you just might make yourself a pretty nice deal around this time of the year. Plus, at least as far as i know, the 3RL is all or almost all gone by now.

360 is awesome, yes.

Dead Rising, Devil May Cry 4, Gears of War, Assassin's Creed, The Orange Box, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Crack Down, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Halo 3 (meh compared to the others), Soul Calibur IV, etc...

And that's just glancing at my pile of games.

Tons of good games, good console, great controller scheme, good enough tech support.

Be prepared for red ring of death, though. Pretty good chance it'll happen, but you get the system back quickly enough.

So, yeah, I'd definitely get the 360 rather than the PS3. Although a good gaming computer might serve you even better.

The 360 is fantastic, there just aren't games for it though if you ask me. And I've played a few underdog games like bionicle heroes (hey, it's a good game okay?) Once you play on it, you will want one. I admit, the PS3 is nice... but I'm a 360 fan all the way. I probably got the last 299.00 360 in the area last christmas. It's great, it comes with a wireless controller, a headset, a harddrive, nothing more to say.

Huh?

Blue Dragon, Castle Crashers, Dead Rising, Fable II, Forza Motorsport 2, Gears of War 1/2, Geometry Wars, Halo 3, Halo Wars, Left 4 Dead, Ninja Gaiden II, The Outfit, Project Gotham Racing 3/4, Saint's Row, Scene It, Undertow...

All of those games are Xbox exclusives that either A) Look incredibly fun if they have not come out yet, or B) Have been highly praised.

And that's only the exclusives. There's Oblivion, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, etc., etc.

No Tales of Vesperia? Fuck you guys.

Also, never gotten the red ring of death in a year, but mine's VERY new.

Also yeah, awesome system. Overall best for the gamer (different from casual gamer). Get it.

I'm talking about current xbox games, I'm very picky. But when I find a good game, it's fantastic. I know that the xbox has great games comming out and I look foward to them.

As for that red ring, I'm not going to jynx myself.

I got the RRoD a couple of weeks ago, and was fairly impressed by Microsoft. Talked to a lady over the phone, she confirmed with me it was the RRoD, and she gave my mom a link to a form. My mom filled it out, printed off a label, slapped it on my 360, took it to the Post Office, and a week and a half later, I got a brand spanking new 360.

Also, I heard Microsoft updated the hardware a while ago, to make the RRoD less of a problem. My old 360 was one of the older ones, and it sounded like a fan running, and got really hot after a while. My new one is room-temperature after an hour, and only makes a slight sound from the fan and the disc spinning.

And I agree, the 360 is the best system overall.
