Why Be Anxious When The Future Is Already Here In Delectable Ice Cream Pellet Form?

So I just got back from the Rays winning Game 7 of the ALCS and was going to make a thread about that but I remembered in time to stop myself from opening such a topic here.

With that intro out of the way, what's everyone's favorite Dippin' Dots flavor/memory? I'm a big fan of their Oreo cookies and cream (which they were out of today :(() but the few tastes of cookie dough I had were almost a match.

Also, is Dippin' Dots technology from the absolute farthest flung future, or is just the best technology from some point in the to-be, not from the end point? I find myself arguing for the latter. If you think about it, saying you're from the future pretty much means non-present/past, and there's no way to absolutely convince people that one subset of ice-cream condensing technology is 'more futuristic'. If I were in their situation I probably wouldn't feel guilty about not exploring the future more if I found a perfectly awesome treat on my third or fourth time-foray.

Also, is there an untapped demand for fiction based around stadium vendors, because if so I have to believe that Dippin' Dots provides the framework for a damn compelling tome. Here we have a company founded by a (wo)man with (illicit(?)) access to that which God hath forbidden (the unbalancing of cause and effect), and instead of being selfish and fucking your grandma the noble choice was made to bring the best, most accessible technology to the present for the masses. Then again, Lord knows what such actions have done for the original timeline (sequel(??)).

I always hear that Dippin' Dots are futuristic, but I don't see what's so futuristic about them... they're delicious ice cream that has been shaped into a pellet... So? We shape stuff into other things all the time; dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets, car-shaped popsicles, what have you.

What the hell is a dippin dot.

It's basically damn good tasting vanilla/chocolate/strawberry ice cream shaped into tiny balls. Go to any major shopping mall near you and there's probably a kiosk somewhere.

You know, when I was in Kuwait, I saw a Dipping Dots VENDING MACHINE.

Sadly I did not partake, as they did not have cookies and creme. Anyway, reading over the wiki article for it, I'm surprised that it actually had a fraudlent patent, though I've never even heard of the competitors before... Shows just how strong DD is.

I've had dippin dots before, and while I enjoyed them, I found them to be vastly overpriced considering that they're fucking ice cream crumbs.

I'm with Karen. I mean, I guess it tastes pretty good? But $4 for a bowl of ice cream is ridiculous, and it doesn't taste nearly good enough to be worth that.

Are they freeze-dried like the astronaut ice-cream or what? I've never had them and they seemed to be something like that.

The reason I've never had them is they seem overpriced as someone else mentioned, very few ounces of ice cream for the amount of money.

Fifthfiend 10-20-2008 01:52 PM

They've been selling that shit as the "ice cream of the future" for like twenty fucking years.

News flash it's the future now and I'm pretty sure we all still like regular old fucking ice cream.

Mike McC 10-20-2008 01:55 PM

Dippin' Dots are, like, just ice cream froze hard into pellets. Ain't like astronaut ice cream or anything, just normal ice cream that rolls a bit better.

They make pints of ice cream with Dippin' Dots mixed inside of it. Not sure what to make of that. It seems unnecesarily meta for a confection.
