Diablo 3 thread
The Wizard is awesome - Behold her human laser!
I note that while Blizzard is letting us pick our class' gender, there's a clear leaning towards certain genders in each class. It's most pronounced for the Wizard, as her background page calls out a specific woman. Male wizard wasn't available in the Blizzcon demo. I went to Blizzcon, so if you have questions about the demo / what they said about it ask 'em. For example, the Wizard's voice actress pulls was pretty good in the few lines accessible in the demo. I'd have comments on more of the voice acting but the lines got really long so I spent most of my time with SC2. |
"You dare to bring the warmth of light into my tomb? Prepare yourself, mortal, to serve me for all eternity."
"You dare bring light to my lair? You must die!" I don't like the way they're weeding out classes, but I'll probably still play. There's supposed to be one or two more classes announced, right? |

But thanks for reminding us of the Zelda CD-i games. I'm sure those of our fellow forumers who've played the games have fond memories. |
how did you feel about not being able to allocate your own stats? i'm feeling a little scowly about it.

What? Damnit. Well, there goes an incredible degree of character customization. |
Character customization in Diablo 2 gave you wide latitude to make your character as useless as you wanted to, and no way to fix it once you realized that 20 points in leap was not a good idea. Synergies went a long way towards allowing points in more than 3 skills to matter at all, but also forced you into one (or if you were lucky two) damage type(s).
Also, later on itemization was such that if you ever put a single point into energy, you were wrong. To repeat: An entire stat was useless. (Optimized stat allocation was enough strength to equip top tier items and then put every point into STA). Honestly the difference between an optimized barb and a barb with extra str isn't very interesting anyway, other than one is slightly more likely to die than the other - skill runes are much more interesting. So I file the new stat customization next to no stamina bar or health potion spam as "Annoying things in D2 that are fixed in D3." |

So you don't choose your own skills even? How did they fix health potion spam? Do you take less damage from attacks, or are there less monsters hitting you? |
Enemies drop health. I think you get to choose skills and stuff, you just don't dork around with stats.

As long as I get to choose my skills, I'll be fine. Even better if they put in some kind point refund system, in case you want to redistribute. |
yeah, i'd like to see some sort of respec system in place. the only way i play d2 these days is on single player so i can use a hero edit to respec points whenever i want to try something different. i think they mentioned having something like a respec in d3 but that it would be as straight forward as it is in wow.
