Palin 2012?

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/...gop/index.html

So there is lots of buzz going around about Sarah Palin's political future if Obama does in fact win the election. Some are even suggesting already that Palin could make a bid for the presidency in the year 2012.

What do you think?

synkr0nized 10-29-2008 10:22 AM

That troubles me.

I sincerely hope not. I won't bring needless insults into Discussion, but I have no faith in her intelligence and ability to lead. I would be upset for the Republican party, moreso than I am currently, if they backed her in 2012 [regardless of this year's results].

"Political ambition?" "Compelling figure?" "Demonstrated political acumen"? Really? I'm more inclined to agree with sentiments like, "She doesn't think aloud. She just ... says things." Indeed.

Who would even know or care about her, outside of Alaska, if she hadn't been picked by Senator McNeededAMinority?

In the words of my less inclined internet brethren:

DO NOT WANT.

Well, at work, a lot of the people seem to like her. One person said something about not trusting Obama nor McCain, but trusting her because "she's a redneck", and you "can trust a redneck".

I don't know how that applies to the population at large, but that's the general sentiment going on around here.

I'm not going to hold my breath on her. Many people are voting against McCain specifically BECAUSE of her. Including people who have really liked McCain for the past several elections. When even big Republicans are saying she's a bad idea (see: Colin Powell, all the people listed in the article), it shows pretty clearly that she's not a viable candidate.

While I'll admit that if it came down to a Hillary vs. Palin race in the future, it would mark a major leap in our society, I'd honestly feel bad for Palin, because barring a major overhaul of her stances or severe changes to the world political climate, it would be like pitting a balloon against a porcupine in a no-holds-barred cage match to the death. I think we all know who would win.

In addition to this, the woman has done nothing but attempt to divide the nation when we're already far enough with the fervent hate for the opposition. In addition to this I could never support someone who cut funding for single mother, preached values as if we would be foolish to have other ones, and would stoop to calling rivals terrorists because someone they talked to was a member of a radical group who admittedly blew up war related buildings with no one in them?

I feel disillusioned a lot and angry a lot because it seems like people don't want to look at solutions and feel like yelling at each other. People in charge watch their asses every moment and shine crocodile smiles at us, assuring us everything is okay in a government that's made of mostly high income people who've never had to work a crappy job so their family could survive. I don't ever feel like they know what their voters go through except in a vague dry secondhand manner, and Palin only exacerbates this sensation.

I think the notion that Palin even participating in the election is a huge insult to women. Not because she is in a position of authority, not because her husband is a stay-at-home-father, but because she was chosen SOLELY due to her sex. It is very, very degrading for the Republicans to have chosen a VP candidate on the premise that "women will vote for her because she's a woman". Please, everybody, send a message to these neo-cons and get them THE HELL out of our government. As a woman in one of my classes said, "She's basically a woman espousing white, middle-aged male values. There would be no advancement for women."

And MasterofMagic, I seem to hear that a lot around here in good 'ol Jacksonville as well. I don't think people realize that the majority of people in the United States do NOT live in rural areas, but cities and suburbs. Me, and I'm sure the vast majority of America, do not share her views on... well, anything. I personally do not like being patronized, especially by Ms. Governor-of-the-Middle-of-Nowhere-With-Multiple-Corruption-Scandals.

Even if it were true that you could trust a redneck (which, no offense to rednecks, but I feel I can trust them just about as much as I can trust anybody else), is a redneck really a good choice to lead an entire country? I'm not saying everyone from rural areas are incompetent, but the people saying "you can trust a redneck" are putting faith in Palin because of a stereotype, and that stereotype includes the inability to understand how that magic-picture-box works. It is, quite possibly, the worst logic for voting someone into power.

I've also always been fond of her little joke, "What's the difference between a soccer mom and a bulldog? Makeup (hahaha)". Isn't a bulldog typically the ugliest dog possible? And a female dog... Isn't she just calling herself, and all other soccer moms who she's trying to convince to vote for her, ugly bitches? I'm sorry, but that's just the way I see it...

as someone Countries away, i would like to declare.. Palin runs 2012, Hillary runs against her, kicks her ass.

Hell, if Obama dosent work she is probably their backup plan...

Osterbaum 10-29-2008 02:42 PM

Please God and Jesus, just FUCKING NO.

The thought makes me tremble. And what's worse, is that if McCain is voted in to office, and he gets seriosly ill or even dies, Sarah Palin could become president a lot sooner than 2012.

Sarah Palin is the most irresponsible choice I have heard of in a while.
