In my creation of a World of Darkness RP...
... I discovered something. This RP would be complex. Very complex. If I did it, this would easily be the most complex RP done on Nuklear Power, ever. I'm bringing this up because a while back I did a poll of RP ideas I was looking into, and when all was said and done WoD got the most votes. Well, i've been working at it ever since, going through the rulebooks that will be important for the RP, and as soon as I looked over how to make a character sheet for one, it dawned on me how complex this would end up. I'll give you the basic sample.
The process of creating a starting Vampire requires a sort of order to it. First, decide a clan. There are 13 vampire clans, all with different strengths and weaknesses to choose from. The clan and the Vampiric order you choose, either the Camilla or the Sabbat, will have a major influence on your character's personality, and how the character will be played. Next, you decide the Nature of your vampire (The true vampire, underneath a potentially phony front) and the Demeanor of your vampire (This is the front your vampire shows to the world, and how they act. This is very rarely the true nature of the vampire, since a vampire must always be wary of others vampires trying to exploit their weaknesses.) There are thirty Archetypes to choose from, and all of the have a different strength and weakness to them. Next your vampire develops their Attributes. Their are three primary classes, and 3 sub-classes to each class, for a total of 9 categories to distribute points in. You also need to choose your primary, secondary, and tertiary classes for the vampire you are making, meaning the Primary class gets 7 points to distribute, the Secondary class gets 5 points, and the tertiary class gets 3 points. Then your vampire has to distribute ability points. There are 30 ability points, composed of your 10 talents, 10 skills, and 10 knowledges, and some of these abilities have specialties that need to be chosen. This once again falls into Primary gaining 13 points to distribute, Secondary gaining 9 points, and Tertiary gaining 5 points. Keep in mind, the most you can normally have in one skill or attribute is 5 points. Depending on the Clan you chose, you now have to distribute points amongst your 3 Disciplines, which are the equivalent of Vampire Magic. You get 3 points towards this goal. Next you develop the Background of your character. With 5 points, you must decide from 10 backgrounds where to place your points for maximum effect. Then is the final traits, your 3 Virtues, which get 7 points. After all the points are assigned, you go back over your virtues to decide your final numbers in things like Humanity and Willpower. Now, if everyone played a vampire, this wouldn't be terrible, but I planned for this RP do use opponents and friends and allies from multiple systems, and I realized that I would not only need to do this, I'll also need to define every attribute, skill, virtue, Discipline, and Clan, and I will need to give a background of how the World of Darkness from a Vampire's eyes is viewed, as well as any extra information like how blood pools are used and work, what special skills vampires can learn fro combat, rules for weapons and weaknesses, and I would be doing all this not just for the vampires, I would be doing this in the end for 5 completely different rulebooks, with 5 completely different sets of rules and guidelines. My conservative starting estimate is that it would take close to 12 text files, possibly more, to get all the information down that everyone would need to play this RP. Thus the dilemma, has FZ finally snapped and bitten off more then he can chew. Well, I don't know about you guys, but if this RP could be pulled off and played to completion, then I think it would kick major ass, and would be worth all the effort. However, I don't know if everyone will be willing to wade through pages and pages of information to play an RP when right next to it is one with a one post long sign-up that they might have just as much fun in. So I'm trying to gauge, how many people, knowing how complex this will be, will still want to join up. If it helps, some preliminary work has been done on it, a story has been ironed out, and the most complicated part will be the sign-up itself, and after that the rest of the RP should run smoothly. Should play out like Call, where the first sign-up was complex and took a while to explain, after the sign-ups were done and the questions were answered, the RP ran fairly smoothly after that. So any views, opinions, whether you would or wouldn't sign-up, or anything you have, post it here, and I'll try to answer any questions you may have about this RP to hopefully get enough people interested to go on with it. |
I've never played or heard of this before, but nevertheless it sounds very interesting (probably not what you want to here). I'd be up for it, if I can get my head round it (I'm a rules lawyer though, I probably can). I probably shouldn't sign up though. Time difference hasn't been kind in the past.

Well it does look complex, and many people may not be willing to read that much text. I'd certainly give it a good solid look and I'd probably sign up, majorly screwing up my bio of course.

There are parts I would be lenient on, like the Bio for one, since many parts of your bio will be covered in the background of your character. I would give allowances for flawed characters, since the main part would be what stats you choose, and how you actually RP your character would be the main parts.
And just as an outline, if this would sway or repel anyone, there will be 4 groups the players, choose from, and a 5th group that would be NPCs, but they would still need to be fully developed characters so I had all their stats for things like battles. Vampires: Classic bloodsuckers, although there are differences between WoD vampires and more classic vampires. Very secretive society. Werewolves: Like the normal werewolf, although they can change at any time into one of 5 forms. Very shamanistic society. Mages: Like a fantasy mage, although they have to be very careful because when they use magic to affect the world, the world affects them back... Surprisingly normal society, just secret from normal people. Fallen: Demons, or Fallen Angels, who now seek redemption for their previous ways. Powerful, but limited for fear of revealing themsleves to too many normal mortals. No real society, many Fallen are fairly independant, but they will work together at times. And the NPCs would be Hunters: Humans who have been Awakened to the darkness around them. They gain the powers of Edges to help them slay supernatural foes. I also might start posting full fledged information packets here if people show interest, both to give a concrete idea of how it will be, but also so people can begin to get a taste of how the World of Darkness runs. |
Post the packets man!
Or soon. Or whatever. |
I don't actually have any full fledged packets available yet, that is why I said I would post them at later dates. I do have a more through rundown of the 5 races however that I might fix up and post later.

Whatever ever you decide to do, this is what I am going to do.
1) I will possibly skim through any attachments and your first post of the sign up. 2) I will make a bio of a werewolf character (Glass clan obviously) that I think is right. 3) That bio will of course be wrong, and you will tell me what is wrong. 4) I will correct what you said is wrong. 5) Repeat steps 3 and 4 until bio is correct. |
That is deserving of the Caused A Slight Grin Award.

Whatever works for you...
And you can be other clans of werewolf. The Glass Walkers, the city based tribe, think that this is enough of a problem so they requested help from the other tribes outside of the city. REPOST: Alright, here is a general assesment I made for my Advisors on this RP, with an addendum from Dante, who knows more about the World of Darkenss then I do. This is just a tiny sample of how complex the RP will be overall. |
This is all very shiny. It does seem that Mages and Fallen are a mite overpowered, but I don't know the rules. So umm... yeah.
