Magical Fracas Discussion A's

Danger! The big enemy is approaching!

NO ESCAPE.

Name: Ancient Guardian, Director Class
Description: Looking vaguely like a malformed spider, this dark creature has a bulky body that is raised above shoulder height on a number of legs, also possessing a number of trailing, short tentacles that don't reach the ground, perhaps the result of malfunction. Its head rises from the top of the mass, being little more than a bulge with an immense, yellow-green eye, the concentric patterns in it giving an impression of a pupil. On the front it has two widely spaced limbs, multijointed but ending in a curiously delicate three fingered hand. Another pair of large arms are set further back, emerging on either side behind the head.
Of Verda origin, this forgotten construct was originally designed to provide heavy support and leadership for the simpler guardians. Its directive was simple: keep the area clear of unauthorised mages. Nowadays, this means anyone it meets.

Abilities: The Director Guardian prefers to skirmish, sending in flunkies to bog the enemy down while it uses its superior speed and misdirection to outflank, simultaneously adapting itself and its flunkies to best deal with the enemy.
Cyclops Laser: A powerful beam attack, able to fire short bursts or a more deadly sustained beam. The sustained beam has a very brief charge period.
Riot Scythes: To augment physical attacks, the Director's arms can produce energy blades. It can also use them as a form of shield.
Void Window: Quickly conjured small portals, approximately a foot across. They appear as disc of blackness framed by a magic circle. The Director uses this to assault people with its Riot Scythes from a distance. It can also produce them fast enough to potentially guard against small projectiles.
Shadow Jaunt: Collapsing into its own shadow, the Director teleports a short distance. It can do small hops near instantly, but takes longer to prepare itself for a long jump. The Director may also use this to transport its flunkies into the fray.
Shadow Field: A magical conjuration, a foglike cloud of darkness that obscures senses. Dispersed by attacks, especially light based ones. The Director has no issues with it. Light from most of its abilities is muted.
Shadow Accretion: the Director can repair and modify its form by absorbing its own Shadow Fields.
Ocular Ride: An augment attachment, looking a little like an octopus with a greenish-yellow spherical gem for a head. Enhances physical abilities. Also grants a full body defensive barrier and energy manipulation abilities. The exact details of the energy manipulation depends on how it is configured. This can be guessed at by its location in the mudman's body. Variations seen so far are energy blades (arm) and a sustained beam weapon (stomach). The Director stores a number of these inside itself.

Monster, thy name is mid-boss!

Hmm, a bit of a steep learning curve...

Oooh, nice to see you're still in Wizarcat. I was starting to get a little worried.

Just to make sure, Relm, "regular quotations are Demi," "italicized quotations are Demi talking for Mogura," "~and quotations with tildes are her familiar actually talking,~" right?

And I don't think you specified how many Mud Knights are attacking Menarker, Arhra, just that there are more than one.

Also, can I kill my Laser Mud Man in a sufficiently interesting manner, or should I treat it like a miniboss and let you call the hits? I'd like to take care of it in one post so that I can keep up with the plot, but I want to know if it's alright.

Relm Zephyrous 11-10-2008 02:25 PM

Yeah. Though, the italicized ones are in her head, aka not said aloud. Her normal thoughts Won't have the "..." around them. If Mogura is talking to others, she'll usually translate what he's saying. Like talking to a doll, having it answer, then her saying "Mogura says..."

Of course, the familiar, who is also in the doll, is heard out loud. The voice seems to emanate from the strings. But, it'll eventually see some points to start talking in her head sometimes, in which cases it's words will also be italicized.

To sum it up...

"Demi talking"
"~Familiar talking~"
"Mogura talking in her head"
Demi talking in her head
"~Familiar talking in her head~"

There. Simple enough. Now, I just need to think of a name for the familiar.

Arhra, I notice that these buffed mud monsters that you unleashed among the varying players (including me) seem to be built a bit differently. I'm taking it that they themselves have different ways of attacking, rather than that all of them share the same abilities. (Like maybe the buffs they get from their teleporting companion vary for each one.)

Anyhow, Phil if you want to partner up in the next bit or so, I don't mind at all. Relm, Teal and Wizardcat seemed to have partnered up already at this point.

Making my post.

Well, Relm and I definitely, but Wizzy's playing the Aloof Ally type, so I'd count him loosely.

Oh, and Alex changed his voice to further hide who he is. Also to make cross-dressing more effective!

Sure, that's fine Phil.

Yes.

Yes they do.

Then tomorrow I shall give you a fine (if brief compared to earlier) post!

Oh, right, forgot to mention that I finished MxO today. There really wasn't that much romance. Neat comic, though.

Arhra 11-10-2008 10:17 PM

Er, Relm, the Director is right in front of you. It's not going to sit around and wait for Demi to make up her mind after making just one attack.

Relm Zephyrous 11-10-2008 10:20 PM

Oh, he's right there? Didn't know that. Fixing...

Yeah, not that much romance, and I never said that. But the bit of infatuation there was with the fairy and the main character is similar to Mero and Menarker, no?

=P

EDIT: Sorry if my post becomes delayed, It seems like I might have to put everything in two posts. (And I did the second one, but the first is not ready.)
