So, is anyone else kind of tired of TV Tropes being hacked to bits every other week?

It's a script kiddie this time.

Warning: There's an embed of some sort on the main page. Firefox pretty much negates this guy's every effort though.

The idiot's right, though; the site really needs some better security. This is like the eighth time this has happened.

Or you could just not link to the potentially dangerous hacked website.

WVI 11-13-2008 03:03 AM

Well, I figure people already know the link, and hey, I warned 'em. Normally, what you'd see is an awesome wiki defining and showing various patterns in multimedia fiction. For those who'd rather not risk it, I've already gone, so here's what you'd see:

[some sort of ASCII art; looks sort of like Earthbound Zero's Giygas or Baphomet]

#.. Owned By KiLLeR HaCk ..#

#.. Your b0x Pwned ... Get a better Security ..#

greatz 2: Qabandi :))

Contact " j-e@hotmail.com

#.. From Kuwait ..#

And then some sort of embed that one can easily decline.

Yeah. Script kiddie. Not much doubt.

It's a shame really. I liked that page. Justifies a bunch of stuff I do usually.

Does anyone know what the virus in question is? I went to the site with IE without knowing it was infected, though the page simply refused to load (it was just stuck and nothing happened). I assumed the connection to the site was just broken then i found this thread. Am i safe? mcafee did not trigger.

WVI 11-13-2008 10:00 AM

I'm pretty sure there's no virus. Most of the pages will get you into an infinite redirect loop, most likely crashing the browser. Firefox averts it.

I don't know what's going on on the main page, though. Some kind of embed. I'm not about to chance it.

Mr.Bookworm 11-13-2008 11:10 AM

Google it.

You can see part of it.

But, yeah, it does need better security.

Security is for pussies and wimps. Real men take the hits.

Donomni 11-13-2008 12:10 PM

Man, can't even load TVTropes here.

This is the first major hack I've seen, though.

Hammer-Chucks 11-13-2008 02:47 PM

...and now it's become a link to iss.net?

This is a real shame. TV Tropes is one of the few things that keep me from being depressed on long days.
